New Search Criteria?

We are considering adding a new option to our search engine for users of our site to better find what they are looking for.

We want to add a new option when you upload your artwork to specify if it's a sketch, work in progress or final version.

By doing this, users of our site will have one more option to filter their results from. Many users don't like to look over sketches and uncompleted artwork, so this would give them the ability to focus on just want they want to see and stay longer on the website.

Let us know your feedback and your thoughts on this proposed new search option.

I agree. A serious buyer would not be interested in looking at sketches or unfinished works and might just go elsewhere if they had to filter through much to get to finished works.

Yes, I like this idea. I don't like to have to wade through unfinished stuff to get to the really awesome work of which there is so much on ArtWanted (why I love AW so much!)

Excellent idea. =)

Yes, I agree - great idea! However...

It's not going to work if you don't have moderators in place to filter through and make sure no one is abusing this. There are a lot of people who submit "sketches" that to THEM are "finished artwork". Some are on lined paper, drawn in school or something... crumpled from their pocket, then scanned and uploaded. We need to make sure these will be posted as sketches, not finished work like the artists seem to think they are... :)

So, in theory, the idea is great. And, I'm sure a lot of us will use it the way it's intended. :) I think you should go for it AW. :)

The same has been happening with the "media" and category types... (I believe I saw this in another post) One that I frequently look at is "scratchboard" as a category... and there are sketches in there, computer drawn doodles... all kinds of stuff! But, what can you do I guess, right? :)

I'm not real sure why you would want to post a work in progress anyway, personally I think that is for the Critique board.

But I guess some people want to, so I guess it would be a good option to add it to the search engine so they can be filtered out, or left in if you prefer.

The fewer clicks visitors need to make, the longer they will stay.

I totally agree!

For the artists who want sketches to be seen why not post them on your regular website under a "sketches page" and say so in your bio or artists statement?

I just joined so I didn't know this was an issue but it makes perfect sense to me.
