Official ArtWanted.com Chat Room Launched

We are happy to announce that we have just launched the new official ArtWanted.com Chat Room! This has been on the 'wish list' of many members for a long time and we are happy to have it now up and running.

The ArtWanted.com chat room will allow you to chat in real-time with fellow members of the site and will add another level of interactivity to our art community. We invite you all to check it out and hop on anytime when you want to chat.

In the near future, we will be adding a 'schedule chat room' feature, so you can schedule/host special chat sessions on a topic you want to discuss. We will also have planned chat sessions to talk with our staff about a variety of topics.

With so many members, it's hard to guess how the chat rooms will be used and how crowded they may become. We have just decided to open the gates and see what happens. Hopefully it doesn't get too crazy and it can be a fun place of our members to interact with each other.

We want to give a special thanks to Pete Miller and his BashPlanet.com website for hosting the 'unofficial' ArtWanted.com chat room for such a long time. We appreciate what you have done to bring AW members from around the world, closer together.

We haven't made any links to the new Chat Room on the website or made any big announcements yet. We wanted to release it slowly, just to have a few of you test it out and give us your feedback. We will announce it to everyone once we see how things run for a while. Here is the link to start chatting...

wow!!! thats so coooool.....

YAY to PETE for all he does..... and see y'all at bash too!!

Pete Miller 07 Feb 2006

Thanks Wendy....

I havent completely digested the AW chat yet...It seems like it would have been easier for them to just use mine when I offered over a year ago...

But to each his own...

I must admit the exact duplication of bashplanet chat on AW bothers me.........

Juan Gomez 07 Feb 2006

Cool..funny the same format Pete..

Pete Miller 07 Feb 2006

Identical..

wendy bandurski 07 Feb 2006

...there's always an evil twin........ so which one is good?

When looking into chat programs for our site, we examined many different packages and options. However, we kept coming back to this one, because of it's features and popularity.

In the end, it beat out the others and since our users were already used to the format and layout, it just made sense to keep it the same.

One thing we required in our chat program was the ability to specify the username/nickname of the person chatting, so that people couldn't pretend to be someone else. We had to authenticate the user from our own database of members. This was one of the main reasons why we we could not link to any other chat website and had to host it ourselves. Sorry Pete, no offense intended.

See, Pete? They know you use only the best! =)

I popped into the AW chat last night for a few minutes and chatted with Andy....I really, truly think that the chat will help deal with the feeling of distance some have complained of where the Staff is concerned. So, I definitely think it's a good thing...and Andy's a funny guy to chitchat with, lol.

I wouldn't worry, Pete. Everyone who uses the Bash chat knows how much effort you've put into it...and just plain likes going there to chat!

In fact, I'll see y'all sometime this week...I think I may have enough of my work done up to spend an hour or so chatting one night, lol. =)

I guess we should try to behave.........

wendy bandurski 07 Feb 2006

Hey AW ... since Pete's Bashplanet was the pre-cursor to this Aw Official Chat perhaps some form of achknowlegment like extending premium membership may be in order???.......

what do you say folks???

we like the chat AW.... :) THANKS

Wade Harrison 07 Feb 2006

oh no more time wasted when i should be painting(lol).

Terry Bullard 07 Feb 2006

checked it out - it was empty...maybe another time

Anthony Mottram 07 Feb 2006

6 attempts at java download and install for IE6.

Not a novice :)

Maybe a Direct link to the software you need would help those who might find this a bit confusing and beyond them.

I went to Petes room a few times and NEVER needed anything to get in or download.

Just some food for thought.

None taken...I was shocked to see the same room. I did research and thought that perticular room was the best out there for the price...Its all good I was just a little shocked.....

Jane McIlroy 07 Feb 2006

I paid a visit, but there was nobody home....

Rita Ria 08 Feb 2006

This is a cool idea

Jessica Morgan 08 Feb 2006

I think it's nice. The problem is getting alot of people there at the same time. Rooms always empty :(

nathan swenson 09 Feb 2006

People will begin to use it more and more. obviously not everyone knows about it.

We have just added a link to the chat room on the message board main menu. We have also changed the chat room to a pop-up window, so you can continue to surf ArtWanted.com while you chat with other members.
