ArtWanted.com 2006 Wish List

We wanted to start a thread where members could post their 'wish list' for our site. Please reply to this thread and give us suggestions on new features or upgrades you would like to see done on our site during this year. If you have seen a cool feature on another art site that you want to see here, let us know about it.

As most of you know, most of the upgrades we do to our site are directly from member feedback and suggestions. You suggestions improve the site for all members. So, don't be shy, post your 'wish list' items here. Even if you have posted it on another thread before, put it here so that all the suggestions are in one place.

We want ArtWanted.com to be the best online art community on the net. Your feedback and suggestions will help make this a reality!

That's like offering candy to a baby, AW! =)

I would like to see an 'Ignore' feature on the boards. Different from the block in that you wouldn't be blocking anyone from replying to threads, you just wouldn't have to view their posts at all. I think that would go a long way towards preventing some of what has gone on in the past from reoccurring.

I also would like to see the part of the block removed in conjunction with the above that prevents members from responding to threads by other than the person who has them blocked. It's really a pain in the rear to get blocked out of a discussion you're involved in because someone decides to participate as well that has you blocked. Keep the block where it prevents unwanted comments, emails, and threads the blocker starts, lose it on the threads the blocker just decides to join in on. The 'Ignore' feature can be used to avoid seeing the posts by those you may have blocked, as you choose.

Again, as I suggested on another thread, a weekly or monthly email mentioning proposed changes, and a link to the thread so that all members are notified when such are in the works, and have the chance to weigh in on them.

Mmmm....oh, and how about a million dollars to each member? LOL =)

Do not allow family photo albums.

This site is called Art wanted not Put anything you want here. People are not here viewing or buying somebody elses family images (unless they are trying to recreate themselves or hiding from the law looking for another idenity...LOL).

If they add a family pic then it has to be of artistic value, a drawing, manipulation, recreated somehow, not just a plain pic!

Thanks

Allowing only 3 images per person per day absolutely blows!

Especially those of us who are Premier Clientele, It should be changed to Max 10 per day (if absolutely nec.) then rest automatically into personal portfolio.

Alot of us cant spend time daily to only upload 3 images. Some of us just want to add weekly and go on with our week, and we understand...the fewer loaded more incline to get more comments..(personally I found that to be a false statement)

And truth be told... If it doesnt hit front page or Other Images Added Today category people dont see them. Few people go through an individuals portfolio, they just comment on that particular 1.

If people dont like Mulitiple uploads then hit the skip button!

Gayla Drummond 09 Jan 2006

I do agree with Lisa that uploading up to say, 5-10 images doesn't seem to hurt the views for them.

However, since the suggested alternative to limit the uploads shown to three on the daily uploads pages was to limit the premium members to only 3-5 uploads a day, I'd rather go with the just 3 shown.

I wouldn't have a problem with that number being increased to, say, 5 images per artist, though.

1) Sher's board

2) positive thoughts/prayer board

3) no more removals of flower pics

4) allowance of decent nudes/erotic art

Mike Sankey 09 Jan 2006

Sorry if these have been said before

- live chat room

- post counter (would encourage forum use i feel)

- Distinction between snapshots and proper photography (a personal thing as a photographer

- the mods made public, please.

- possibly a board of artists from across the site could act as a panel for submitting the very best of AW, say 3 pics per artist per month - this would give a decent top 10, as it would not be based on backscratching

Lisa Eshkenazi 09 Jan 2006

I think you should ban stupid and mean people forever. And ever. That would make the site a lot better.

Also, I think that you should give everyone a free one year premium account.

And world peace would be nice too. :)

Now...on to things that are actually feasible.

1. Being able to subscribe to threads in which we're participating so as to get a notice when someone replies to that thread--that way we don't have to keep checking them and refreshing. Cause that's a pain in the bum.

2. Please do something about the nude thing. I don't paint nudes and am really indifferent to whether or not they're allowed but darn it, if I hear one more person mention it my head is going to implode. And I know you don't want that. :) Seriously--other sites that allow nudity place a "MATURE WARNING" button in place of an actual thumbnail so that you can't get caught by surprise. The only people who have to see it are people who want to look at it. Many sites also, when you click the MW button, pop up another box that warns you must be over 18, blah blah blah...then you have to click through *that* to get to the picture. I feel that is a good solution to keeping innocent eyes from being tarnished by nudes.

3. Change the way you handle moderation of the boards. Instead of removing entire threads, perhaps you should warn the person who started the thread to *edit* out the objectionable content prior to just up and deleting the whole thing.

Okay...those last two are really more about site policy than features but I still think they need to be addressed.

3. Sub categories for photography. I agree with Mike there. *EDIT* As I pondered this, it occurred to me that DA has a 'scrapbook' feature, which is a sort of sub folder inside one's gallery. The scrapbook is where you are encouraged to place 'snap shots' and unfinished sketches, etc. They don't show up in your main gallery but in a separate area. Perhaps that's an option too?

4. Public mods!! Yes...I totally agree there. (Okay..that's really site policy as well).

And that's all for now. :)

*EDIT* P.S. I like the idea of being able to sticky certain forum threads. In fact, a set of forum rules/tips/advice stickied at the top of every forum might be helpful too. :)

Gayla Drummond 09 Jan 2006

I'm with Lisa & Mike....moderators to become known.

ArtAblaze 09 Jan 2006

Thanks AW Staff..My wishes are still the same as they were last year. So I have copy-pasted it here again. I hope they get accomplished this year.

-------------------------------------------------

"I have two wishes for now...

This site has improved in heaps since I joined here...and will get better each day hopefully but lots of the new members would never come across or learn about this wonderful artist and friend who passed away recently. Can we have something like an award or picks of the day board or any thing in the loving memory of Sher Richardson pretty please?

And secondly, there are some very informative and helpful threads on these boards. Can u help us make them sticky so we dont loose them when we what to refer to it again...please?

thats it!:) thank you!!"

Kathi Perry 09 Jan 2006

As I posted in another thread here on the aw board..allowing mature content to be posted with a notice of the content before someone sees the actual work. Putting pasties on private parts ruins most of the posts that are considered sensitive viewing. I am not suggesting porn but allowing freedom of expression. This would protect the viewers who are sensitive to viewing nudes but would allow those who choose to see them do so.

Moderators should come out of hiding. It is too much like wire tapping.

Diana Hume 09 Jan 2006

- Automatic emails sent to commenters when the artist replies.

- Alphabetized ArtWatch

Christina Langman 09 Jan 2006

This is a great idea AW. :)

(Diana - the replies DO get sent by e-mail now... the artist just has to check the box "Send e-mail to commenter" or something...)

First of all... ********************************** I think right now, my biggest PERSONAL pet peeve has got to be the 10 comments showing under the pictures. Hear me out - I know lots of you think it's great... but I know that the first say... 30 or 50 comments on my work usually hold the most IMPORTANT or MEANINGFUL comments to me - they are from my "ArtWatch" people, and they are from true FANS. As time goes on, a lot of the comments are from people who stumbled across the picture, and said "Great work!". Which, don't get me wrong, it is GREAT to get these comments, but I don't want the last 10 COMMENTS on my work to be all 3 word comments. I want to show those MEANINGFUL comments from my biggest fans, the ones that almost brought TEARS to my eyes!

So I know that cutting down to only showing 10 comments obviously (or supposedly) decreases loading time (I'm sure the benefit is nano-seconds, but whatever) but if you are insisting (and the members are, I guess) that we KEEP this 10 comments thing, can you PLEASE - PLEASE, I'm begging! Let us CHOOSE which 10 are shown? (As an option... we could select "Show 10 most recent" or "Choose which comments to show" or something) I don't know how much of a pain in the ass this would be, but I would appreciate it like you wouldn't believe! Or - better yet, simply have it an option of the artist - SHOW 10 MOST RECENT or SHOW ALL COMMENTS - that way it is OUR CHOICE, not a forced option. **********************************

Ok, now that the rant is over... I'm going to agree with a few comments already on here:

1) "Sticky noting" threads, or better yet, having a "My Threads" section, right under where the list on the left is - right under "Tutorials and Tips" - have a section of the Discussion Areas that is literally called "My Threads". This will include ALL threads that YOU started, as well as any that you "flag" (create some "Flag this thread" button). There are a lot of threads that I go back looking for, but can't remember what they were called or who posted them... there are SO MANY threads in a day! Is this too much to ask? It would be SUCH a huge improvement to our boards. :)

2) "Sher's Board" - great idea! Along with a "Well Wishes Board" (Please don't call it Prayer Board, I'm sure you know why) and maybe a "Birthday Wishes" board? I don't know... more categories to make our General Discussion a little less CRAZY. LOL - how about a "Funnies" board - where Gary can post all of his hilarious jokes and pictures? ;) LOL (And everyone else of course! ha ha)

3) Not sure about the public mods thing... isn't that going to open it up for hate mail/bashing threads or accusing them of doing things... you know, maybe a really BAD streak of comments on their works, that sort of thing? I'm not sure, but it could work, I guess.... :)

Well, that about covers it for now. I'm definitely going to be back to THIS thread... (Too bad I can't "Flag" it or "Sticky Note" it... ;) LOL)

*EDIT* After re-reading this, I just wanted to add that when I have been commenting, viewing, etc... browsing essentially - I have not ONCE clicked on the "See all comments" on anyones work. Talk about loading time? Who has the time to do that? :) Going back to my rant already... LOL

joan warburton 09 Jan 2006

I wish people would stop trying to get your attention with foul or shocking language.

I don't mind it at all in "general discussion" but for some reason, it really bothers me on this board.

Just my own personal wish....

Judy Minderman 09 Jan 2006

A chat room would be great! Perhaps 4 images a month for freebies??? If you could accept money orders for premium memberships, as I don't have a credit card I also would like to see tasteful nudes accepted as you sure see kids in museums on feild trips etc.and there are tons of nudes there! Thanks for listening at least:)

Anneke Hut 09 Jan 2006

I have asked this before and I have seen some others with the same wish. I would very much appreciate a commentboard on the mainpage of the artist's portfolio, which would give the opportunity to say something in general about the artwork you see, like style, use of colour, things like that.

And it would really make very happy when all 'urls' on the forum automatically would become 'working links', which we can click instead of all the copying and pasting we need to do now.

Thank you in advance AW! :D (OHHHHHHHH real smilies! Wouldn't that be great? LOL)

Lisa Eshkenazi 09 Jan 2006

I second that Annekke. Those are both features I would like to see as well!

And as for an earlier comment about public mods opening the door for hate mail, etc. I feel that if AW took a stronger stance on banning people who send hate mail, threats and in any way harrass other members, people would probably be less likely to do that sort of thing. Besides, just because we know who the mods are, that doesn't mean we're going to know which mod deleted which threads or pictures or did whatever special moderator thing.

But when there's a problem on the boards (or one that's addressed on the boards), how much nicer would it be to have a *person* commenting, helping or explaining than the ever so anonymous Artwanted.com Staff? I think it would be much nicer.

Nancy Costley 09 Jan 2006

How about some more choices in the Sub-Gallery Sorting Department? Oh..... ......a reminder to add more types of printmaking processes to the choice for media (descpriptions.)

Christina Langman 10 Jan 2006

I just thought of 2 more... :)

1) I would like to see a "reply" function along with "hide" and "delete" when we view our comments under the "portfolio feedback" section of our members area. I don't want to have to go to my image IN my portfolio (hence giving it an extra "image hit" LOL) and then reply there... I'd like to reply to each comment in the list... without having to go to each image seperately. Does this make sense? I hope so - because I think it would be easy to do, and a pretty big help to alot of people who use this function.

2) I would like to be able to select a "Favorite" image to appear on each folder for my sub galleries... and rather than showing the 1, 2, or 3 most recently posted images at the top of our main portfolio page, I would like to be able to CHOOSE my 3 to show up there... I find myself NOT posting some of my work, simply because I don't want my "Serenity" to disappear from the top of my portfolio page, or from the folder image on the sub gallery... Hopefully this makes sense too. :)

Thanks for opening this up AW - lots of great comments and ideas! Looking forward to some changes in the future, that's for sure! :)

Cristina Marsi 10 Jan 2006

I second Anneke and Christina here :) 1) would like to have a comment list on main portfolio page, where one could comment on general artist style and so on, instead than on a single image. 2) Favorite image on top of each folder would be nice too. I found myself in same situation, when i hated to upload new image because it meant old image disappearing :)

Gayla Drummond 10 Jan 2006

I would like for the message boards to be made non-public to non-members. =(

This discussion continues on the next page...
