1. Sub Galleries for freebies

2. 4 post per month for freebies (even tho I don't post that much)

3. Keep moderators secret, it will just open a can of worms if they are exposed.

4. Keep members posting to 3 - 5 post per day. This 15 - 35 post in one day 3 or 4 times a week is not necessary.

And no I'm not talking about the random images, I'm talking about the post in the different galleries.

5. Eliminate family photo's unless they have artistic merit.

If someone wants to show their family, wedding pictures etc, either create anothr gallery or have a different place to post them.

6. I like the ignore button suggestion. But then I already ignore those I want, just not with a button.

7. Perhaps a religion and politic boards to keep it away from the general membership that wants nothing to do with the other persons views.

1: Central AW time to be shown so that everyone knows exactley where they are at when posting.

2: Currency Converter. Would be useful for the print programme because AW works in $'s. I'm from UK and I work with £'s.

3: Scrap the Top Ten, it doesn't work and never will.

4: Keep Moderators anom and get more people to help out with moderating. There are too many images miss-placed. eg: Photography: Surely all photographs should come under the photography section AW supplied and not in Fine Art etc? AW has a clear definition with photography (anything that was created with a camera). Photographer don't panic, I'm not saying that your images are not art, I'm just saying that they are photographs and should be entered on the site as that!

i would like to see a more positive attitude here at AW in 2006, and that would have to start at the TOP. a more 'customer oriented', non dictorial attitude. please stop with the threatning emails , that talk to members like they were children... i want POSITIVE, POSITIVE ,POSITIVE:):):) i am a firm believer in, 'you get what you give, what goes around comes around, etc.....perhaps some 'customer service ' training for your moderators:)

Christina's comment made me realize I might not have been clear in my wish.

Right now if someone leaves me a comment in my portfolio my REPLY does not get sent to the commenter. I don't think all the artists realize that.

I would like to see the replies sent automatically as well.

A rant board. Not viewable to people who are not logged in.

Such a place might be a breeding ground for angst, drama and general dissatisfaction but right now those things are infecting the entire forum. I'd rather have them gathered all in one place so they're easier to ignore. If they fester in one place that non-members can't see, it might improve the atmosphere of the rest of the boards.

:)

BOOOOOOOBIES, BUMS & BITS! hehe

Peter Beard 10 Jan 2006

Firstly, the long-awaited beta upload program. Since it worked perfectly when i uploaded even though my ISP only allows 10mb upload I still uploaded 16mb successfully using it.

Second, more orientation to art sales rather than an art site.

Third, I've been able to download members thumbnail pictures [as an experiment and print them out A4] so the 600kb size might be reduced to say 26kb which would mean that any images would pixellate if thumbnails were down loaded. Of course putting copyright across the picture can prevent this but it does tend to ruin the picture and maybe the chance of selling same.

Fourth, there is a lot of difference between pornographic, erotic and life-drawing. anything that would be shown in a major gallery and not though pornographic might be perhaps considered okay. I think someone else mentioned this idea above.

Fifth and I've already emailed this one to AW, when browsing it would be nice to be able to exclude certain categories rather than having to choose only one or all categories. For example, a buyer might not want to buy photographs, cartoons, and manga but would like to see all other categories [these are just examples].

It will be interesting to see AW making comments on all the suggestions as they are put down rather than at the end of the exercise.

Thanks for the opportunity.

Regards and a Happy New Year to all

thank you aw!! this a good start

Lisa Eshkenazi 10 Jan 2006

I agree with Peter, I'd like to hear what AW thinks of some of the suggestions so far. :)

Pat Abbott 10 Jan 2006

Snapshots/family photos should have a seperate gallery or not be allowed at all. Because snapshots are not art and this site is called ArtWanted.

I would really like to be able to arrange the images in my portfolio.

The creation of Sher's board would be really nice too.

Gayla Drummond 10 Jan 2006

Yes, something to commemorate Sher. =)

S Jones 10 Jan 2006

Forums should not be viewed at all by general public-potential clients. One reason (of many) there is too much foul language used. Un-necessary and could be effecting potential buyers.

Currency converter good idea.

Personal pictures weddings, birthdays can be used in the general discussion. Even though I am probably guilty of it, I wont mind remove them.

I small wish for me only (maybe) Encaustic Wax Art Listed as medium.

Lisa Eshkenazi 10 Jan 2006

I think what AW really needs is...emoticons! No site is complete without them. And I'm tired of having to make up my own. D:

Plus zany emoticons make me happy. :)

jane diamond 10 Jan 2006

thanks Aw for the wish list.

here are mine:

1.) i agree, no family snap shots unless they are artistic. people lounging around in their house and saying 'cheese' for the camera just doesn't seem to suit this place or purpose. unless it has an artistic flair, it don't think it really belongs here.

2.) as far as nudes, the naked body is beautiful, and can be a work of art in itself, and is nothing to be censored. if it is done tastefully and artisically, i see nothing wrong with it. if there is porn look to it, that i can understand, but i've seen some nudes here that had the black blocks over private parts, and you can still tell the piece was done with class, and i fell it's a shame they have to cover it up. again, unless it totally raunchy, tasteless, aggressive, porno-esque, etc...i see no need to censor it.

3.) also, can you PLEASE consider listing the classifieds under the DATE in whihc it was posted (starting with most current and working down) and not in alphabetical order please. because there are so many listings, it's hard to sift through them to find ones that are current. if i look at it the way it's set up now, i'll sometimes find a classified ad that might be suiting to me, but see it was posted a year ago, even though it may be towards the top of the list. i can't check the classifieds everyday, so i feel by sorting it from when it was dated, over alphabetically, will give me and other artists to not miss out on possible jobs. some people will still respond and say 'i just saw this, i hope i'm not too late'.

4.) and lastly, it seems flowers as a subject are very popular around here. is it possible to make a seperate category for that. like in the listing where it says magna, design layout, drawing misc, etc...can you add something like 'flowers and plants' or something. there are a lot of amazing flower pieces here, but they seem to dominate the top ten so often, there's been days where 5 to 6 out of ten are of flowers, pushing others artists or subject matters aside. just a thought.

thanks AW! :)

Cristina Marsi 10 Jan 2006

I second Peter on the opportunity to _exclude_ some categories from view instead than choosing the category you want to view :)

Thomas Broadfoot 10 Jan 2006

1. Many fantastic wishes are already made public and I agree with many that boost the sales and postitive aspects.

2. I do believe that customer service is and should always be a priority. The artists actually supply the products, the content and the context for this environment ... AW close your eyes for one moment and think if a large majority of the artists left can you say Ghosts Wanted? Better customer service and less de facto knee jerk reactions.

3. More granular subject choices to better fit art into the right category... upto and including family shots so that others have no need to view that subject area if it does not interest them.

my wishlist item: being notified of replies when you post in a forum! I dont remember which forums i post in, and so far the only way Ive seen replies to my messages is if I go back and find the forum i posted in and go find my message. We should have like an inbox where you are notified of replies etc, like you are notified thru email of the comments you get on your art. It would be very helpful!

Christina Langman 10 Jan 2006

(Diana - the replies DO get sent to the artist now - if yours do not, you should talk to AW about this. When you click on "reply" to a comment left on your work, the pop-up box includes an "e-mail reply to artist" that you have to check off... I'm positive we are talking about the same thing! :) LOL)

I want to second a couple things I read...

1) AW time clock on the page, maybe top or bottom corner... so we all know what time it is in AW land. Great idea!

2) Message boards private/inaccessible by public/non-members - AMEN TO THAT! Also (not sure if it's been done already) to not have the message board posts come up in Google searches... yikes.

3) Flowers/Plants sub gallery - good idea, because there ARE a lot of this type of work out there... good to see them compared against each other. I like that idea. :)

4) And MY GOODNESS YES to the "excluding" certain areas when searching! Often I'd wanted to do a search for something in both "Fine Art" and "Art/Drawing Misc.", but had to do both seperately, because I couldn't just go and exclude the ones I didn't want to see. :) SUCH A GREAT IDEA! :)

5) Along with Pat's "being able to arrange images in our portfolio" - this would be a great idea... the "layouts" are nice, but I think it would be better if we could move images around, in orders that WE want, not uploaded order. Also... with the "layouts" - why isn't there a layout that just has all large thumbnails, instead of a couple here and there, with all the rest as TINY thumbnails?

6) I love the idea of LIVE LINKS on the message boards. SO sick of "copy/pasting" links, that I often won't go see them unless they kinda sound interesting... or maybe someone replied that it was "great" or something... otherwise, too much time. LOL

Ok, I think that covers it for today. TONS of great ideas... it would be a dream come true if AW could really carry through with a lot of these. I think after all of this, they should do a "member's survey" to see what everyone thinks... prioritize, and see how many people are for and against the changes. :)

Amanda Hone 11 Jan 2006

Would it be possible to add a column for number of comments received in the portfolio statistics section of our members area? I'd really like to be able to see at a glance which work has been most popular. At the moment I have to click on each image individually. Perhaps also the number of people who have rated an image alongside the average score.

Julia Lesnichy 11 Jan 2006

I still think it would be better to allow artists place figure drawings and paintings, even if they show nipples and butt cracks. Sometimes I do life drawings, but have to place them on other sites like wetcanvas.com to get some feedback. Some protection may be useful, but only if paintings contain erotic or porno poses.

I also wish we had forums on different topics and could discuss them freely. I believe we as artists need to communicate and help each other rather than to rate others' work.
