ArtWanted.com Art Cards (ATC/ACEO)

ArtWanted.com would like to get your thoughts on a new product line we want to introduce on our site in the near future. This new product is 'ArtWanted.com Art Cards', also known as ATC/ACEO's. These 2.5 x 3.5" collectible prints will feature artwork and artists from our site.

ACT stands for "Artist Trading Card" and ACEO stands for "Art Cards, Editions and Originals". They can be prints or original artwork, but the main rule is that they must be 2.5 x 3.5" in size. ACEO's have been around for hundreds of years, but are really gaining popularity. These low cost artworks are pocket-size and usually inexpensive to collect. At any given time, you will find thousands of them on Ebay by artists from around the world.

Our goal is to increase awareness of these 'artist trading cards' and hopefully put some extra money in the pockets of our members. We plan to offer a service to our members to create Art Cards of their artwork. We will then sell these Art Cards individually or in theme 'packs' that will contain multiple cards from different artists throughout our site. Artists will also receive commissions from the sale of these cards, so everyone wins!

We would like to gather your thoughts about our Art Card program with a small survey we have put together. We will choose 3 lucky people that respond to this survey and award them $25 in free stuff from ArtWanted.com. Here is a link to the survey, thanks for your time!

How long will the survey run?

When would be an estimated date for them to start being available?

How will they be printed...or what will they be printed on, I mean?

Will there be a special section of the site for them?

Tell us more, do! =)

Jessica Hobdell 10 Feb 2006

maybe post cards?

ArtWanted.com Staff 10 Feb 2006

The survey will run for the next few months, but we will start making decisions based on the first week of survey results.

We don't have all the details of the program yet, because it's just an idea, but we can tell you what we know for sure.

We don't have an ETA for the Art Card program, but it should be within 1-2 months.

The prints will be done on two different types of paper, depending if it's double sided or not.

Yes, there will be a special section of the website dedicated to ATC/ACEO cards.

Post cards will be a product we start offering March 1st for our print program members.

I think this is a FANTASTIC IDEA!!!! I have heard of these little things being extremely popular. You have my vote!!!!

Kelly Barrett 11 Feb 2006

This seems like a good idea! anything that gets more exposure for artists is worth trying at least once.

Instead of business cards, I pass out postcard or even lobby sized cards at some events. Trading card sized art seems like it's worth a try.

What information would be printed on the backside?

I'd be interested to know how many people at AW would collect the cards or "theme" sets. While I see ACEO's at ebay, I've never actually bid on them. There is some lovely work done in miniature!

Personally, I prefer buying larger prints because of my poor eyesight!

Bo Fransson 11 Feb 2006

Yeah, great idea. IF the print quality and paper are good enough I will certainly support this idea!

Jane McIlroy 11 Feb 2006

I agree - great idea!

jennifer blenkinsopp 11 Feb 2006

Bo I can assure you the print quality of these are fantastic, I have just ordered more,-------- as I stated on the other thread these are also Ideal for passing around to galleries, and passing to people which attend exhibitions, they look great in the toploaders, picture at one side with a small certificate on the back with your name, year, and website if you have one on the back. Delighted AW is selling these also, I am definitly going to collect them,-------mini artworks, as well as prints of the artwork.

Great idea!!

Sean Lynch 11 Feb 2006

Why was my post deleted?

ArtWanted.com Staff 11 Feb 2006

Not sure what post you are referring to Sean. You just posted "Pencil me in for the entire month of July.... " in another thread, but if this is not what you are referring to, please post it again.

Terrell Smith-Dorfeo 11 Feb 2006

these are hot sellers....i'm all for it

Gary Glass 11 Feb 2006

SO this would be along the lines of what Gayla was talking about on the board a few weeks back? Sounds interesting..

joan warburton 11 Feb 2006

Should open editions be referred to as ATC and limited editions and originals be referred to as ACEOs? Just checking 'cause right now I have all open editions and want to label them properly.

Laura Smith 11 Feb 2006

Hey I posted on this thread earlier too. Something like, "I think it's a fantastic Idea and I can't wait!" It's been deleted.

Cher Peterson 11 Feb 2006

If these cards can be used like a business card (with our AW website on the back) and the paper they are printed on is of good quality, I would definitely be interested!

ArtWanted.com Staff 11 Feb 2006

ATC & ACEO are really interchangeable terms since the 'AC' in ACEO stands for the 'A' and 'C' in ATC. :-)

Bottom line, just be sure to let the buyer know if they are originals, limited editions or open editions when you put them up for sale.

As for threads being deleted, there are several posts on ACEOs right now, so it looks like you just posted your comments on another thread.

The print quality will be just as good or better then our current prints and the paper will be thicker then our current prints, so they will be top quality cards.

joan warburton 11 Feb 2006

K, thanks so much. The ones I've had printed are outstanding!

Laura Smith 11 Feb 2006

Missing post: I took the survey, clicked on the link that says, Back to Art Card Message Board Post which takes me right back to this thread and that is EXACTLY where I posted. Let me assure you.

It's no big deal. I just wanted to assure you that I did not post somewhere else in case this indicates a problem since two people mentioned it. =}

Celito Medeiros 11 Feb 2006
