Tony, it's fine that you have an opinion about the GD board and it's perfectly acceptable to voice that opinion here but yours seems to be a "lonely one" so far. Only a handful of members have spoken up publicly. We're all adults here and we only want the truth.

Where are the rest of the masses AW says don't want to either use the GDB or say they are glad it's been closed? Call out your like-minded members. This debate won't settle amongst members until the numbers prove it. The scales seem to be very tipped here. Hopefully, the member survey will tell the story completely, but for now, it seems a bit stilted to say more members wanted it closed than not. Where are they all?

AW, I'll take that hand-slapping on the left this time please. The right is getting sore from having an opinion.

I understand completely Tony. I was jumped (rather attacked) many times myself for having a different opinion, better yet, a lot of the time for simply having an opinion at all.... but in the overall scheme of things, the GDB has been a place for sharing and getting to know other members on a personal and friendship level (besides the art) that many of us now miss. Most importantly, the fights and arguments were much fewer and farther between than the good communication and were mainly orchestrated by the same few. Overall, I think most would agree that the good outweighed the bad.

I also believe from the posts that I read that everyone here who wants this board back now sees there ere of their way..... it WAS mainly just because they had a difference of opinion that many simply could not accept and move on. If someone always has to have the last word, the feuds will never stop..... ignoring this kind of behavior is the only solution. As most of us now realize, removing the GDB did NOT remove the problem of personal attacks.... it only removed a part of the boards that many here now miss. The personal attacks have now flowed over into other boards, including this one that AW is now monitoring so very carefully. Too bad they didn't do that to the GDB sooner and a lot of this could have been avoided or stopped by the few who kept the fights going.

The fighting and personal attacks will continue simply because a few people cannot control themselves..... it's simple and something that none of us (the membership) can make others do. For that matter, can AW really control what anyone does here?? Removing the posts seem to be their only solution, still.

For those who didn't like the GDB and it's been discussed here at length, they can always avoid it or post only on topics that interest them.... as it has always been...... and ignore the rest.

I still don't understand why people who don't like or want the GDB go there? If you don't like it - just ignore it, but don't take it away from people who do!

I agree, Pat. If someone doesn't want to read Boards, it's simple: don't read them. I never search for manga or 3D rendering at AW; this doesn't mean I don't respect these artworks; I simply must manage the time I can spend here and I prefer to search for fine art, photography, digital painting or cartoons. My preferences don't give to me the right to ask AW for delete that kind of work. I simply don't watch them. The same with the boards. I continue to think there's a kind of childish behavior here. Positive feedback, no debate, rainbows, butterflies... Once upon a time...

The issue of the general discussion boards is much larger than just ignoring the boards if you don't like what is said. This does not stop the constant rule breaking or fights between members, which was the root of the problem and the main reasons why it was taken down.

There are only a few people that are willing to post why they are glad the GD board is gone. Most of them feel that they will be attacked for posting their opinion, so they only share it privately with our staff. Many of these people are active members of the boards that most of you would recognize. Other members have expressed that they used to participate on the boards until they got ugly and they stopped using the boards. We want to encourage our members to participate on the boards. If there are things that are going on to make people not visit the boards, we want to address those issues and fix them.

Breaking the rules sometime is somehow necessery i think, becose i don't think everybody join a discussion at board after reading faq .If there are breaking of rules noticed by moderators and warning comes, then so many, yes somany will aware. After all rules are there to break ,unless there will not be any importance of those rules.

And fighting, hehe it's not physical, just vertual with words, but artists are use to come with different opinions time to time for try experiments.Just see, like when Sean was oposed the alias thing there was a fight(in your word) with alex, but now they are very friendly and working together with a project. When pete comes and complain against denny, everybody thought there is a fight, but they are very friendly now.Yes i don't know what type of relation is there now with pete karen and steve, but i love all of them,i only defended pete there bacose nobody was there, and he was attacked by both,i saw pete is defending, that so i have post in favour of pete. There are so many examples,i don't think there were somany peoples who have broken Aw rules contineusly and indulge in fight. They are a handful, and also they are all our friend,we accept them as they are,you just cann't find all of your fingure in same.differences are there always,I like these adventures, but i have also a strong faith they are just acting like that, not they are originaly of that charector.

Anyhow, i have found all of my favorite threads, but i will be more happy when GDB will live again. We cann't live comfortabily without one part of our body, yes there will be seakness/illness, but we'll have to cure it and also take care of it.

I keep saying this (I know) - but if peeps just ignore any attempts to get someone into a fighting mood.

Or take it ouside. sigh.

mel taylor 14 Jun 2007

This is the first time I have had to use the GD board. I thought it was a good idea, but had no idea that there were a lot of "personal attacks" from artist to artist. I would never actually take the time to "attack" any artist. If I did not care for their artwork, I'd simply move on to another artist. The fighting for me was in Viet Nam,and now it is in Iraq. That's all of the fighting I really need to hear or read about. There is no need to fight here. I will still come back to post from time to time, but if all I read is negativity, then I will have to reconsider. Please don't attack me for leaving this post, I'm just a harmless struggling artist trying a new venue.

Marty Yokawonis 14 Jun 2007

gosh mel don't be worried. there is no longer a 'general discussion board' because of the open warfare going on between certain members there, AW closed it down permanently (hopefully)

It would be great if you hung out with the artist discussion board though. We hang out and discuss art.

Also at the artwork critiques people upload stuff they are working on so others can take a look at the works in progress and offer helpful comments.

The war of the GDB is still going on like in Iraq and I think is time to bring our troops back, we can't win, not that I care about the board one way or the other.

Tell me about any group or board where people don't break the rules? Those who test the limits will continue - they'll just go to different areas - in fact it's already happening.

Artists, as a rule, tend to test limits, stretch limits and color outside the lines - it's part of why and/or how we create - however, most of us do this and still respect other's opinions and rights.

My goodness - what do those who are afraid of 'speaking their mind' here think is going to happen to them? I've been trounced a number of times and I'm still here and still alive - I've just learned who to stay away from and who to ignore. A couple of guys who used to make nasty sarcastic remarks to and about me on a daily basis upset me at first - then I recognized their insecurity and stupidity - it's not my problem - and they actually made me laugh.

Again - if I don't like a forum - I don't go there - if people are nasty to me, I block and ignore them - I don't try to take aspects of AW away from people.

Why do I keep beating my head on this wall? sigh.

Keep your GD Board.....useless ego crutch.

jennifer blenkinsopp 14 Jun 2007

Well I would like to see it return, its flippen boring, we all love talking about art, but also we have a life away from art as well, and sometimes like to share this with freinds on here, remember the words STICKS AND STONES WILL BREAK YOUR BONES, BUT WORDS SHOULD NEVER HURT YOU, If a fight breaks out SO WHAT, its healthy, human nature, go on other artsites, especially Saatchi, there is freedom of speech amongst artists on all topics, they don,t run and tell tale when things get out of hand. WORDS ONLY WORDS.
