New ArtWanted.com Widget!

ArtWanted.com is excited to announce the new ArtWanted.com Widget!

What's a Widget?

The 'ArtWanted.com Widget' is an interactive scrolling slide-show of artwork from our members. The Widget is designed to be placed on other websites (like MySpace.com, eBay.com or your personal website), posted on blogs/bios/forums or even part of your e-mail template. If someone likes the artwork they see, they have the option to view the larger artwork, purchase the artwork or view the entire portfolio of that artist. We have created an interactive Widget for each member of our website that can be used by that artist or your friends/family to promote your portfolio.

Why was the Widget Created?

ArtWanted.com is always looking for ways to improve the exposure of our members and generate more sales. The Widget accomplishes both of these goals by placing the artwork of our members all over the web with links to view the larger artwork, purchase that image or visit the artists portfolio. If the artwork displayed in the Widget is for sale (in our print program or as an original), the BUY button in the Widget will light up, indicating that the artwork is for sale. The buy button will link directly to the purchase page that shows all the print sizes and custom products that are offered on that image. This should generate additional sales for our members.

What type of artwork can I display?

The ArtWanted.com Widget can display artwork from our site in four ways from our customize Widget page:

  • Artwork from any specific member of our site.
  • Random artwork from ArtWanted.com.
  • Newest artwork uploads to ArtWanted.com.
  • Specific images using any keyword search.

How do I post the Widget on another website?

It's quite simple. Simply click on the 'Promote This Artist' link on any portfolio or visit our 'Widget Overivew' page for the instructions. You will be given a small bit of HTML code you can copy & paste into any website, forum or e-mail that accepts HTML.

What else can I do with the Widget?

By using the 'keyword' widget, you have even more possibilities. For example, if you have a website about dogs, you can place the ArtWanted.com Widget on your website and use the 'dog' keyword. When you do this, the Widget will only show artwork of dogs, which will add great content and images to your website with very little effort. Any search term on our website can be used as a keyword for the Widget. To setup a keyword Widget, just go to our Customize Widget page.

Can I make money with the Widget?

Yes, actually you can! The ArtWanted.com Widget is tied directly into our referral program. If you are a member of our site, you can then create a Widget and place it on any website in the world. When anyone clicks on images or links within the Widget, your referral code is tracked and you get paid a portion of whatever that user buys on our site. The more sites you put the Widget on, the more money you can make from referrals. For additional details, check out our full referral program.

What is the future of the Widget?

If the ArtWanted.com Widget is successful, we have big plans to make it even better! We plan to build additional sizes, designs, color themes and transition effects to further promote the artists on our site. We hope to get a lot of feedback on how we can improve the Widget, so that we can see the ArtWanted.com Widget all over the web.

We hope everyone enjoys the new ArtWanted.com Widget and that it generates additional exposure and sales for our members. For more information, check out our Widget Overview Page:

Okay now AW this is FABULOUS....will this widged work in the email?????????????Can this be customized just for one member?

    Dominic Melfi 01 Sep 2007

Tested on google blog - Works

Tested on google base - they seem to edit this and reject it

    This IS a nice feature

I dont know how everyting ties together, and who my audience is here on AW

BUT I am on other sites and am lucky to get a hit or 2 when I enter a new piece, here within 2 days I average 150+

I wish we had more stats especially members and non-members so we could see how much outside exposure there is.

I do work at it and try to promote myself all over the web.

I am retired now for 10 months and consider this my "JOB" for the time being.

Is there antway this could start "FULL" rather than taking 45 seconds to fill up, that is the first few shouldnt be delayed, or could we specify a SPLASH Screen for startup?

Wait!...Why can't I right click to copy??? It won't allow me to do that? HELP!!

And yes I agree..this is really awesome!

    joan warburton 01 Sep 2007

Well, this is way too cool! :)

Charlotte, highlight the code. Left click on the highlighted area and hold it down as you right click. Now you can release and use "copy" as you normally would.

Okay now ...i need to know what is the line that needs to be changed so will show my portofolio?NEVERMIND i got it....Its on my website....FANTASTIC AW....keep up great work

Go to member's area, click on your widget, click on customize your widget, and on the left you have choices. Tick off that you want to view your own portfolio.

If you want to view certain images you can match a "keyword". I'm thinking that this keyword must already be in your "keywords", that you added, when you uploaded your image.

If it's not, add the keyword to all of your images that you want on the widget.

For instance if I want to seperate my fractal artwork from photos I'm going to have to add the keyword "photo" in my keyword search area for each image.

You can find "keywords" for each image if you to to "manage portfolio", click on the image and a few lines down you would enter your "keywords" for searching. Does this make sense? Haven't tried customizing the search yet but will let you know.

    Markos Berndt 01 Sep 2007

Very cool AW. I am going to try to work it into my website and e-mail.

You should make one for the Vista sidebar.

    Charlotte Ottilo 01 Sep 2007

How awesome!...I got it! Thanks Joan, Bianca and Artwanted!

    Charlotte Ottilo 01 Sep 2007

Ok I just discovered when you click to promote this artist, if you just highlight the address at the top of the page you use that link for your website. And if you already said this..Please excuse my ignorance..LOL

www.artwanted/widget/promote.cfm?artid=14048 instead of trying to copy that long html in box.. yes?

    Penny Myers 01 Sep 2007

It worked on Myspace for me, but not on freewebs.

    Dean Swinfield 01 Sep 2007

    http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=138228501

this is my myspace url - maybe I shouldn't have two on there but it makes my machine very slow!

    but what a great idea!!!

    Charlotte Ottilo 01 Sep 2007

OK I have added a few of you all to my webpage. But it is just the link and not the scrolling of artwork. If you don't want it there let me know I will take it off..if you would like to be on please let me know and I will add you.

I can't get the html to work on my site..I get a error message and not a valid html. Any suggestions?

    Charlotte
