New ArtWanted.com RSS Feeds

ArtWanted.com is happy to announce the new 'RSS Feeds' feature of our site! We have created a custom RSS feed for each of our members and several general RSS feeds that contain ArtWanted.com information.

RSS is a standard Internet format for delivering regularly changing web content. It currently stands for 'Really Simple Syndication'. Many news-related sites, blogs, podcasts and other online publishers syndicate their content as an RSS feed to whoever wants it. You will notice RSS content on the web by the orange 'broadcasting' logo.

If you are new to RSS, be sure to read this entire post to see the benefits this technology gives to you. Here is a brief overview of our new RSS feeds:

1) ArtWanted.com Artist Feeds

We have created a custom RSS feed for every member of ArtWanted.com! This feed displays the ten most recent images you have posted, and your ten most recent blog entries (Premium Membership required for blogs). Those that are interested in your work can subscribe to your personal RSS feed and be notified when you have new images or make a new blog entry. This system is even better than the ArtWatch feature, because you see thumbnails of the 10 most recent images that have been posted by that artist and can read their blog whenever new content is posted.

To view/subscribe to any artist's RSS feed, simply click on the orange RSS button on their portfolio page. RSS feeds help people stay connected with their favorite artists and bring additional exposure to everyone's portfolio.

2) ArtWanted.com News - http://www.ArtWanted.com/rss/news.cfm

This feed contains all of the updates and news about ArtWanted.com. You no longer need to dig through pages of message board posts to see what our staff has posted, or wonder when something new has been added to our site. As a subscriber to this 'news' feed, you will always be the first to know when new things are added to ArtWanted.com

3) ArtWanted.com Contests - http://www.ArtWanted.com/rss/contests.cfm

This feed contains a list of the 10 most recent art/photo contests on ArtWanted.com - Several new contests are posted each month. You no longer need to wonder when a new contest is added to our site. Simply subscribe to this feed and you will be notified on the day any new contests are posted to our site.

We hope all our members enjoy the new RSS features of our site. We plan to add additional RSS feeds to our site in the future and share tips on how you can make the most of this growing Internet technology. For additional details on the ArtWanted.com RSS feeds, check out:

First of all, thank you so much for this feature...it's really awesome!!!! I've subcribed already to a whole bunch of people and still am. I've only encountered a problem on one for June Steward...when I tried to subscribe to her it brings up an error page to say that the feed contains code errors.

Thank you all again!!!!! Laurie

This is great AW, I'm going to give it a try now!

bianca 29 Aug 2007

What ever this is GOOD JOB AW...for adding new feauture...however i am blonde...and for long time i have seen RSS but dont know anything about it...What is the purpose of it?

ashok nayak 29 Aug 2007

Yes,it's contemporary and it's very nice, but please don't provide RSS feed for member's only area and place a option to provide or not to provide artist's own feed(only those member will benifit who are in support of disabling right click)

Lisa Weber 29 Aug 2007

How do we remove that feature from our own portfolios?

ArtWanted.com Staff 29 Aug 2007

If someone does not want to have an RSS feed, you can let us know by e-mail.

However, by turning this off, you are essentially saying "I don't want more hits, I don't want people to see my artwork and I don't want people to know when I post new artwork" - We can't imagine any reason why someone would not want to have this feature with all of the benefits it offers and without any down-side.

ashok nayak 29 Aug 2007

AW hosts art work of different catagories, those are of fine art, they will welcome this feature and will benifit, but those are in digital and photography,i think they may affect.By the way its a nice feature now a days,i love this.

PS: Like present status, please don't provide RSS feed of member's areas at Forums......

mel taylor 29 Aug 2007

This new feature sounds wonderful! What if I wanted to select the images to put on my RSS? Is that possible? I think that some of my older work (drawings, paintings, sculptures, etc.) would be nice to have there...along with some of my digital work. Thank you!

AW REPLY: We currenly just display the top 10 most recent images in your portfolio and there is not a way to select which images you want to feature. An RSS feed is not really meant as a replacement for your portfolio page, just a 'teaser' on the new things you are working on to bring people back to your ArtWanted.com portfolio. The RSS feed is filled with links back to your ArtWanted.com content.

...Is anyone willing to give me inteligent answer what is RSS? what r the benefits of it.....just simple answer in english please.....no complicated answers...short and to the point please...

ArtWanted.com Staff 29 Aug 2007

Bianca - RSS has many benefits. It allows you to easily stay informed by retrieving the latest content from the sites you are interested in. You also save time by not needing to visit each site individually, because you are notified when new content has been posted to any of your feeds. There are many other advantages that can be explained on other websites that may be dedicated to RSS. The number of sites offering RSS feeds continues to grow, and ArtWanted.com is now offering several RSS feeds for our website visitors.

Here are a few additional comments about RSS...

1) RSS feeds are active for all members, not just premium members. The 'RSS' icon will show on every artist portfolio page on our site.

2) Some newer web browsers have an RSS reader built into them, so you don't need to download additional software to subscribe to the feeds. You can simply view the page and subscribe to it directly from your web browser. If you have an older browser/OS, you will see a bunch of XML code when you to to the page, so you will need to download RSS reader software (which is usually free) to subscribe to the feeds or update your browser/computer.

3) Here is a page of popular RSS readers for anyone to try out: http://www.rss-specifications.com/rss-readers.htm

4) RSS feeds will be a new concept for many of our members and website visitors. There are tons of websites out there that are dedicated to explaining more about RSS for those that are interested. We invite everyone to 'Google' RSS feeds, to find out additional information about this technology and how you can benefit from it.

We hope this information was helpful, but please let us know if you have any additional questions.

Dominic Melfi 29 Aug 2007

ArtWanted.com Staff 30 Aug 2007

Dominic, can you let us know what free members accounts you are looking at that don't have the RSS button? We have seen it on every artist we have looked at, premium or free account.

Dominic Melfi 30 Aug 2007

sorry about mis-information, I expected to see rss when I clicked in from browsing images, but it only shows on main gallery, so I was confused.

At this time I haved resolved all my issues on RSS.

I am sure this will be popular for news sites and blogs and some other venues, not sure about AW, do you have any way to track it's usage?

I have some concern that it requires latest versions of browsers any idea what stats are on distribution of IE 7 is?

Laurie Rawdon 30 Aug 2007

I also ran into the code error problem in trying to subscribe to "judith webbs" feed.

Thanks, Laurie

bianca 30 Aug 2007

I downloaded 2 readers and nothing...oobviously i am doing something wrong...if anyone is willing to help me solve the problem will be much appreciated.....i still get source codes....it doesnt work for me...
