2009 Calendars - Call for Entries

ArtWanted.com is excited to announce that we are now accepting entries for the 2009 Daily Art Calendars! As a member of our site, you can submit artwork for these calendars without any entry fees and have a chance to be spotlighted in these upcoming calendars.

The ArtWanted.com Daily Art Calendar is now in it's fifth year of production. These great calendars showcase beautiful artwork from hundreds of our members and each year we strive to make them even better. We gathered some great feedback from our members and here is a list of upgrades to the calendars for 2009:

2009 CALENDAR IMPROVEMENTS:

  1. Entry deadline has been pushed up by two months, to get the calendars out way before the start of the new year.
  2. Every US order will be shipped via Priority Mail to greatly speed up the shipping times.
  3. Every order within the US will be sent a tracking number for delivery tracking/confirmation.
  4. Real-time preview of your calendar page when your artwork is submitted.
  5. New calendar themes to allow for more artist submissions.

2009 CALENDAR THEMES:

For 2009, we will have three unique calendar themes. Each calendar will contain 365 tear-off pages from artists on our site, for a total of 1,095 unique artwork/photography entries. Here are the categories:

  • Traditional Artwork (paintings, drawings and other traditional mediums of all subjects)
  • Digital Artwork (digital illustrations, 3D renderings and digital paintings of all subjects)
  • Photography (traditional & digital photos from our members)

CALL FOR ENTRIES:

We are now accepting entries for each of the three calendars. Members may submit up to three images, one for each calendar. Artwork for the 2009 calendars will be selected by our staff in August from all the entries received. There is no entry fee to submit your artwork, so there is no reason why every member should not try and submit at least one image. The deadline for all submissions is July 31st, 2008.

CALENDAR PRE-ORDERS:

For those that would like to be the first to receive your calendar, you can also pre-order a copy of the calendar(s). As a special bonus for your pre-order, you will be guaranteed at least one page in the 2009 calendar and also be able to select the date your page will be featured on. The price of the calendars is $15.95 and the price drops for every additional calendar you purchase. Pre-Order Today.

2008 CALENDAR BLOW-OUT:

For those that are interested, we still have a few 2008 calendars remaining. We have slashed the price to only $2.95 each for this closeout. If you were featured in the 2008 calendars or would just like some great art on your desk every day by your fellow members, here is your chance for a great closeout price.

CALENDAR SUMMARY:

We enjoy creating these calendars every year, because it gives our members an additional opportunity for exposure to new art fans. Every calendar page includes your website address to point people back to your online portfolio to see more of your artwork. We hope all our members take this opportunity to submit artwork for the 2009 calendars!

Looking like lack of intrest this time for calender, why not thinking of publishing a book as you have done it erlier with calender?

Madeleine Weber 02 May 2008

Everytime when i try to submit images i get this message.."Please login as a member and then you can return to this page". Does somebody else have the problem?

With respect, you might consider offering A CHOICE less than $9 priority mail for each purchase package....esp for a $3 item... as you know, the book rate/regular mail is closer to $3 each...if that much.....

I also vote for a softcover and/or hardcover BOOK rather than, or in addition to, a calendar...

Ashok - What gives you the impression that there is a lack of interest in the calendar? In just a few days, we have had over 300 images submitted for the calendar, and we have not even sent out a mailer to most of our members yet. There is a huge interest in the calendar, even just after a few days of being announced, we don't know what gave you the incorrect impression.

Madeleine - We are not sure why you are being asked to login, as this page is working for other members. We suggest that you try logging out and logging back in to see if that helps.

Sidney - The calendar does not quality for 'Book Rate', so the only other shipping option is 1st class mail. 1st class mail is almost as much as priority mail and it takes 3 times as long and doesn't include a tracking number. While first class mail is an 'option' through the post office, the cost savings is minimal and there are far more benefits with priority mail. THis is why we decided to just offer priority mail for simplicity.

As for those that would like a book, this is something that we are considering, but no final decisions have been made yet. The cost and time to produce a quality book is huge and unless we have a ton of sales of the book, it is not worth putting it together. We have to print thousands of copies of the book to keep the book cost under $50/each.

We learned many things doing our first book and we found that 90% of the sales came from those that were featured in the book, and not many from from art enthusiasts that see the book. Even if every member featured in the book purchased several copies, it would not even come close to pay for the costs of creating another book. Before we do another book, we would need to establish partnerships with other websites/companies to promote the book, so that it can generate the sales needed to pay for printing costs.

The calendar has many benefits over the book, which is why we do one every year. Because the calendars are printed digitally, there are no minimums to print and we can print the exact quantity needed. The calendars also feature artwork from thousands of ArtWanted.com members, while the book is limited to just a few hundred. The calendar also has a functional use, which is another reason why it's so popular.

The bottom line is that calendar sales have been 20 times more than the original book we created and has always been a very popular item for our site. We still may do another book at some point, but as you can see, there are a few more obstacles to overcome before we press the go button on that project. Until we make that decision, we hope our members can continue to enjoy the yearly calendars.

Actually i found this thread empty after 5 days of its posting, that so i have thought like lack of interest, sorry for that, it's so great to know all those responce this year and your vew on publishing a book is very true and according to your experience, but you better know making a place within some selective artists and it's in an international publication is somthing special for artist, and books are for longer period, its a documentation, always it helps artist in proffession.I hope your proposal for publishing book will be a final one and thinking to create something unique for making a place on that book.

I think advertising the book in artist magazines, to libraries, and bookstores would be the way to go to promote them more. Ballistic seems to do that with thier art books. I've seen them in major bookstores. Creative Minds is fantastic and well worth doing again. Perhaps you could get a agent to promote it more? With all the art/crafts shows & stations out their now, this might be a place as well. I know when I go browsing art books, I would have snatched a copy because of the large variety of contempory artists it has. Talk about exciting! I had the one I got from here and it went traveling to friends & family for a month before I had to steal it back. If you got distrbution out more, it would cut the price of the book, & help it sell more. Not to mention the traffic it would bring. I would use it as a marketing/advertizing deduction for taxes if you were at a loss of sales.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I would like to say that I work in a library and would be more than happy to buy a copy of the book to donated to the library if, infact, you do decide to publish another book and the library can not buy it themselves. And I'm very excited to see this year's calendar and all the wonderful artists who make into it.

Jewel Savoy 11 May 2008

Whenever I try to submit my entry, I get the page for submitting to the 2008 calendar. The message "deadline has passed for submitting entries" pops up and I haven't found another place to submit my entry for the 2009 calendar. I also wanted to preorder a 2009 calendar but they are not listed after clicking the "preorder" button. Only the 2008 calendar is listed there. I'm sure I'm doing something wrong but would appreciate someone helping me out. ...Sorry to be such a dummy. LOL Should I attach it to this message? If so, how can I preorder the calendar? Thanks.

Lea Wiggins 19 May 2008

I am new here and was wondering if the artword submitted has to be new and never posted, or if we can upload images from our gallery here? Thanks, Lea

ArtWanted.com Staff 19 May 2008

You can upload existing images for the calendar that are already in your portfolio. We just ask that you don't upload images you have seen in other calendars.

The Calendar entries are a little different than the Contests entries. We have actually designed a page where you upload your artwork to the calendar section. Here is a link to it;

After I uploaded an image for the calendar, I noticed there's a typo on the "thank you for your submission" page. It says:

"Calendars will be shipped out before October 31st, 2005 that are pre-ordered."

Um, will the 2009 calendars really be shipped in 2005? :)

Thanks --John

ArtWanted.com Staff 04 Jun 2008

Thanks for the note, we have updated the page with the correct year. :-)

All pre-ordered calendars will ship out before Oct. 31st, 2008.

Carol Lozito 16 Jun 2008

What are the royalties for the calendar to each artist?

ArtWanted.com Staff 17 Jun 2008

The artists that have artwork featured in our calendars get the free exposure. There is actually no money paid to the artists that contribute artwork.

Otto Schade 15 Jul 2008

Last year I was awarded. I received no money for the calendars Art Wanted sold. I couldn't receive even a copy of the calendar. I am really dissapointed with Art Wanted.
