Please critique What does this need?

This is the first acrylic I've done in years. I'm trying to loosen up a bit from the colored pencils, but the pictures needs.....what? I ment for the sunlight to be the main point, but the grass seems to have upstaged that. What would you do? Thanks in advance for your help!! Trish

ok, I think you have to put the grass on first "plan" (premier plan in french) more in shadow, because sunlight is interrupted here by the enclosure. and to make light appear more shining, you have to add contrast to the grass field and mountains as you did in the enclosure.

and try to make light spaces in the mountains bigger a little,I think this will make the painting glowing!

I hope this will help :)

First off, very nice painting if you haven't painted for years. When I look at this painting, my eyes immediately seem to be pulled to the mountain view. I agree that it would be better if sunlight was emphasized in certain areas of your painting to make it more lively, not sure of some sun rays through the clouds would help but just a thought. :-)

The composition works for me Trish. I know you had said what you had initially intended for the painting, but unless it is really important to you...go with what you have working here. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this composition...call it fate... :) Sometimes the happy little mistakes we make turn out to be the best things that happen.

I agree with patrick.

It looks good. Sometimes trying to acheive what you intended ends up taking away what is already there.

I think it looks great.

First off this is nice work Trish,....my first impression was that the grass along the cattle shoot needs shadow... you may also want to add grass stoke, like those along the shoot ,to the bottom left, bringing that color over to create more sunlight....Very nice painting none the less ....keep up the good work

Thankyou all for the comments. I think you are right, it needs a bit of shadow on the grass near the fence, and since the grasses are seeming to be the center of attention, a bit more on the left may help. I think I will try to lighten up the hill behind also and try to soften the edges some more there. If I don't ruin it, (LOL!) I'll repost later with the changes. Thankyou all again! Trish
