My New Fantasy painting

Last week I finished this painting (see below) and personally I think it's one of my best, or at least I like it best out of all my works. I have it on Ebay (starting bid 20$) but no one is bidding on it. Is 20$ to high? Is it not good enough to sell. What can I do to improve it so it will be more appealing to buyers. Please please help. I am getting so depressed that no one wants to bid on it. (sorry for sounding arrogant)

Hey Lindy!!

From my experience I have found that I should list my work for what I think is fair and reasonable. I have let so many pieces go that I was proud of for way to cheep. If I were you id look at the painting, think about how attached I was to it, the amount of work and skill put into it and then list it on ebay starting at the minimum id be happy with, or else put it my ebay store or on my web site for the full asking price as a "buy now"

Over all I think the picture is nice there are allot of little details. I like the color of the dress, although it seems too bright for no real light source. I think if you made the dragon on the right side lighter it would of helped to give an elusion of light coming from that side of the painting, as thats where it appears to hit the fairy.

There is something about the face and I feel its the right side, the eye doesnt look right, or the curve of the face seems unnatural.

I like the detail in the rock and the wings. Mostly I think you just need to pay more attention to the shading and working with a light source.

Hope that helps!

Thanks Candace. Actaully I did pay attention to the light sorce, you can tell by looking at the face. There lgiht sorce is coming from the right. Maybe I need to make more highlights or try a different scan cos the picture does look a bit dark in general. I wasnt all to happy with the face either, its a bit tricky for me to draw a face sideways if I am not using a ref picture.

Could be, My computer monitor it wack anyway, its really dark, I sometimes need to see what my own paintings look like on my husband lap top to make sure the brightness it right. So on my end it looks dark but on everyone else's end it probably looks more normal. Sorry I forgot all about it, guess it's hard to say if my computer shows everything dark.

And you do a good job with humans and humanoids, I mean I don't do that well with them myself.

Its a good piece, nice solid work and color is terrrific. i have never had any luck selling art on ebay. Too many entries to sift through. its frustrating, but you got the skill, keep creating.

Personally from a marketing standpoint I think the fact that there are so many artists on E-bay selling the same subject and caliber of art as you that it would be difficult to market your work there effectively. Unless you find a way to set your work apart from all the others.

Thats very true, there are countless people on ebay selling just fairy artwork, its very popular! Since i focus more on dragons my competition there is actually quite low, its surprising there arnt more artists there auctioning dragon artwork, but that works out for me!

I have found that all the artist on ebay that sell fairy artwork on ebay and do well definitely have their own unique style and are very developed in skill with it. So you just need to keep posting your artwork, getting exposure and perfecting your skills in an original way.

Jasmine Becket-Griffith (aka Strangeling) would be the first to tell you that it takes time to build up a fan base and start to be recognized, as far as ebay goes, the more popular you become the more your peices will naturally end at a higer price.
