Culling and Weeding old images..

Culling and Weeding out old and low rated images is a good idea. We all want to show the best we can show and those images that do not meet the standards we wish to show, could be stowed into another area...like maybe each year a new start... I regularly cull my images and have deleted those that needed to be removed...especially in the beginning when there were only a few ratings on them...thats the time to cull. You can always redo the image and return it improved as a new image... When I go to see portfolios, the ones with heaps of images get me totally lost...I am trying to keep my portfolio to around 100...and even that gets too cumbersome at times. Others sites restrict to 100 kbs..thats another way of keeping members to a certain controllable limit, or charge more for excess..like excess baggage. Culling is what artists should be doing as their skills and works are improving...to show their current work, and what is happening today.

100 pieces! Wow, I'm surprised at that number!

I've always felt that a portfolio should present only an artist's very best work -- perhaps no more than, say, 10 - 15 pieces. I've always kept mine within that range, and have carried that over to my online portfolios as well (although there's a bit more leeway online, so I may go as high as 20 -25 pieces at times).

Not saying that you're wrong to include so many pieces; just surprised!

Isn't it the artist's perogative to control their own portfolio? A lot of people don't even have 100 images, so doesn't that sort of balance things out? If an artist decides to revamp their portfolio, isn't that up to the individual? Are we incapable of making our own choices, should other artist dictate what "should" or shouldn't be done? I am constantly amazed how other people feel they know what's "best", and that somehow it is their responsibility to instate policies that effect thousands of others. Do you guys really believe that individuals never thought of changing or revamping their own portfolios to suit their own taste, desires, goals, needs, whatever? Again, are we children? Yes, some people have a lot of images in there portfolio. I am sure if it is a problem for the website, they can find ways to adjust. It is a business, someone started it, someone will profit from it. There is a staff. There are brains involved in the operation. They have all the knowledge concerning the financial aspects, etc. I'm sure they can figure somethings out on their own, as I'm sure they will. Yes, it's great to give suggestions, feedback, ideas etc. But sometimes people seem to want to control others. When you say things like "WE ALL WANT", don't you realize that you are suggesting you can read minds and speak for an entire population? I get lost in large portfolios too. So?
