Vaughn Oliver

Have you seen the movie Se7en? The guy who did the beginning and end title sequence; Kyle Cooper. Well, he wouldn't be in business if it weren't for Vaughn Oliver also known as v23.

Vaughn Oliver started doing design work for 4 A.D. in 1983 and revolutionized album art. Even when I was a kid and knew next to nothing about graphic design, I knew a 4 A.D. album just by the cover design.

Oliver set the stage for a graphic revolution in the eighties and nineties. His impact was left on the music industry and influenced a generation of designers like Cooper, exploring the possibilities of type and print.

The Pixies album Surfer Rosa is the album a lot of you might be familiar with.

His stuff is great terence.i have a lot of those albums.I do also love the guys who do the intro to those movies. They do a great intro to the "Island of Doctor Moreau"the H.G.Wells adaptations with val kilmer and the late marlin brandoe. They also do the dream sequences in Minority Report, the steven speilberg film. They do several others ones but i forget. Some of Vaughn Oliver stuff reminds me of Dave Mckeans work.Who must be a fan of Olivers.

and looking over this i see as always that my spelling sucks!!! lol

LOL Ryan, yeah Vaughan is pretty wicked, so is Kyle Cooper. Cooper also did the opening titles for the "Spider Man" movies.

If you can find it I recommend a book called "This Rimy River" which has a lot of his more famous and early album covers and inserts.

I think he's great because he uses design like an abstract painter would. Layers and layers of images, text and color on top of each other. And he was doing this years before P-shop or Illustrator were even thought of.

Terence

I got a question for you.I'm thinking of submitting my work to altpick.com for there website for artist.Have you had any experience with this site?I know Jeff Soto,Gary Basemen and other juxtapoz artist are on there. As well as many other great artist.I think there is actually a couple artist here that are on altpick.com I want to do it because it is cheaper then getting someone to design a site for me.I think the site will also get me more exposer. If you know anything about this site, i would love to hear what you have to say. On a recomendation from rob jones i check out your website.Great stuff man!
