In the Forest (impressionist oil)

Please critique this painting. I had trouble with this one, since I was only using primary and complementary colors for an autumn forest scene.

What more do you need? Could use more depth maybe. Very ambitious piece. Nice mood to it.

I like the bright colours you used in this forest scene! You did a good job incorporating the sky holes into your tree branches/leaves, and I like the little touches of shading on your tree trunks. Nice! Ann

Yes, I agree with Ann. I love the light coming through the trees. I think the whole painting is very nicely done.

This is an interesting question..

if I may give my opinion, as I see it.. the painting needs a little more rest in it and that can be done with colors too. I see a soft green and maybe more of this color on prominent places gives more balance at the composition.

I hope this was useful..

Good luck with the process.

i don't know about the green idea. it wasn't a green time of year, was it? more of a brisk autumn day that energizes someone to take a walk. lots of cool shadows against the warm shades of fall.

the only critique i'd give is to make the human figure even more impressionistic to sort of blend her into the trees more and not put the focus on her.
