Artwork Critiques (or comments?)

I was just wondering, should artwork critiques be for works in progress, and pieces not posted in portfolios?

If i see someone posting an image saying 'visit my portfolio for this image' should i go all balls out and then critque them instead of comment on them?

Otherwise Artwork Critques is going to be used as 'hey I've posted a new image!'

It's a small gripe, but I think a valid one.

They are working on that issue Mike..among other things..respond to such comments well you are on your own...sort of like tit for tat..you'll only get back what ya put in.

Well I see nothing wrong for having it for "Works in Progress" I just posted for a critique on one of my paintings in progess to get opinions and to help me along if anyone has good suggestions or think something need to be touched up. It could really help to improve on the painting and help the artist while at work, where if they waited untill it was done and have something said thats to late to fix.

Isnt that a good reason to ask for a critique on a unfinished painting? I think so. I feel it should be allowed.

I agree with you Candace. A critique is a comment or a suggestion, no?

i was saying that critiques shouldnt be used to promote artwork that is already in your folio

OH!!!! OK he he sorry for the missunderstanding. Hmmm though, I cant see whats wrong with people posting images for a critique thats already in their portfolio, perhaps they just listed it but hope to get more comments and suggestion on their work then they might not other wise get from people passing through their gallery.

If they are truley looking for a strong critique and not just posting the image to tell everyone they have a new image I think it would be fine, at lest by me anyway.

I wouldn't have a problem with people asking for someone to look at their portfolio and give them some feed back. Many times people want someone to just look through their stuff and AW suggests you tell all your friends about your portfolio so they can look through it but sometimes you want an artist's opinion of your stuff. I asked Shelby Mccarty to look at my portfolio because I wanted to know what she thought about it overall. I haven't tried putting any works in progress up for critique because well quite frankly I don't like opinions when I'm in the middle of a picture. I would rather hear the good the bad and the ugly at the end when I've done my thing. Otherwise I tend to become anxious and overwork the thing to death. I have learned the hard way to (as Stephen King says) "keep the door closed" until I'm ready to show the world what I did. Then I can listen to comments, reviews and critiques.

When you go into someones portfolio and they have the ratings turned on, isn't that the same thing as a "Critique"?

Perhaps a "Suggestions" Gallery is needed just for comments and not critiques.

Myself, I find it difficult to post a WIP in the Critiques, because I know it's going to be a whole lot different on the finished end. But then again, comments seems to be what everyone wants.

So again...I think a "Suggestion or Comment" Gallery would eliminate this problem.

Just a thought.
