A color reversal ballpoint pen image! Enjoy, Jerry

Jerry 09 Jun 2009

Music anyone, punk, modern or contemporary art! Dig the frame.... Jerry

Jerry 09 Jun 2009

Here's a digital ballpoint pen art work. The list or alterations are endless needless to say. I'm however basicly interested in accually drawing with a ballpoint pen as a means within its self. I did however explore some new directions or idea's yet don't plan on making a career of doing such.

Cheers, Jerry

I can only imagine how Picasso might have felt. Can you. I guess your computer work on your drawings is different from mine. Maybe I should add a purple cow.

Minnie Shuler 09 Jun 2009

ok...I added my purple cow with dark purple ink and long flowing lines, done with a ballpoint pen. Can I play in your private electronic playground now Jer....Can I ? Can I? Huh? Huh? Your friend (and don't ever forget it), Minnie

Minnie, I have a real simple plan pertaining to (my own ballpoint pen art program). I’m introducing what a ballpoint can do as a drawing instrument. A ballpoint pen can produce a full and half tone, dark rich colors and a long flowing line. Those are historical events within the Pen and Ink art movement and what I represent as an artist or publisher!

Everything you’re saying or doing is most excellent or brilliant. They represent your interest, push ballpoint pen art to a new high plus open the door of opportunity for millions of others. I am at heart a pen and ink artists because my core interest are based on what a ballpoint pen can do by its self. (I however experiment or try other effects as do you and many others.)

I always wonder what’s on other people’s mind? What are their idea’s or personal programs? How do they vary or parallel mine? You’ve opened a door, expanded the scope of ballpoint pen art at this forum plus present a new direction and that’s fantastic. What do you vision or see happening with this art movement?

Cheers, Jerry

P.S. I'm just another artists Minnie. No better or worst than any others. Art is a very subjective interest or topic therefore the public decides what they buy or support. I'm hear to express my views just like you or others Minnie. I have no power over anyone here at AW therefore my words are just my opinion as are yours. I simply ask people what do they like, love, mean or plan?

Jerry 09 Jun 2009

I developed my own program, blog, sites, video’s and life just like you and others. We’re currently with the AW forum so we can discuss the ballpoint pen art topic with others, correct?

Why don’t you simply produce your own electronic playground, make up your our platform and have a happy or blessed life like I did? When I came to the Internet ten years ago there was nothing around that represented my art interest. So I started up my own program and sites! How simple………….

Cheers, Jerry

Jerry, you are not like other artists. I did not intend to get into a spitting match with you, and if I have offended you, I apologize. I would hope one day that you might understand that I am only trying to get you to be a leader rather than a dictator. Both usually go down in history but one is loved much more. I have ordered some gessoed masonite...very smooth slick surface to work on. It will be a few days until they get here. I live on the edge of Apalachicola National Forest and love the woodland but I also love just ink designs and the computer. I try not to use the canned computer tricks like the neon edges ...etc..etc, but rather to create something of my own for which there are no prescribed steps, sometimes I do integrate one of the publisher's cool tricks but never as an artform of its own. I used to not like abstract art and I know many people do not even yet consider it art. But I have learned to love the basic things about art like line, design and color combinations. I took a design course and for my final exam I submitted this ink drawing. I thought my teacher was going to flunk me. She wanted something abstractly designed. Now, Jerry, I am not a young chicken. I have spent far too much of my life trying to lead something. My husband and I had six children and raised 5 to maturity. They are all gone and I seldom ever let anyone step on my freedom, in any aspect. No doubt, I could probably produce some art that would meet your specifications and I probably will sometime but not because you said that is how it has to be if I am in your movement. But as long as you are dictating what it HAS to be it will be YOUR movement and not an art movement. Art moves itself along, that's how they determine the great masters...they survive the test of time (of many years). Many people have butt their heads up against that wall. My teacher wanted me to go back and do my peice again, but as an abstract. Thankfully, she didn't try to make me do that and I passed. But, I'll always remember she wasn't pleased. If you didn't like my art, just say "it stinks" Minnie. I know this was a hastily done piece, I was just trying to see what could be done and I will continue to experiment but probably not until my gessoed boards come in. Your friend, Minnie P.s. I thought you'd see from my purple cow that we ate the meat yesterday and I only had the horns, bones, ears and hoofs to go by. I did add the leftover rump roast in the middle. Ironically, this piece is called "The Wall".

Minnie. I think your artwork is outstanding. I am truly sorry you have found out what Mr. Stith is really like. If you are new here, you would have no way to know why there are not many other artists posting here since he showed up.

BTW, I use Masonite "Gessobord" made by the Ampersand Company. Is this what you have coming? I get mine from an art supply company in Boone and Charlotte, NC. It is called "Cheap Joes." Real good prices and fast service.

Do what you do best!

Denny

Minnie Shuler 09 Jun 2009

I've heard of Cheap Joe's, but haven't used them yet. I ordered this from Jerry's Artarama. Yes, it is the product you named. I ususally have some but I am using my last piece on a commission, a floral oil painting. Your career sounds fascinating. Thanks. Minnie

Jerry 09 Jun 2009

Minnie I’m not dictating anything! I KEEP TELLING YOU THAT YOUR WORDS AND ARTWORKS ARE FANTASTIC!

You and anyone else can do whatever you desire. If you think ballpoint pen art takes in everything you do or like that is wonderful or completely fine with me. I’m not putting limits on you or any others at this forum. I have my views or interest published on my site or in a biography posted at this forum. Therefore you can see my views are consistent.

I’m not posting anything negative about you or anyone else. Why do you think I’m offended? Minnie, I have no power, authority, control or jurisdiction over anyone at this forum. I’m a guest with this forum and behave as such.

ArtWanted.com has many members, lets people post artworks using most art mediums plus provides a great printing serves for those interested. That’s why I’m with this forum! I’m simply trying to convey my artistic views to fellow artists. What you or others say is important yet not a reason to go negative.

I can except ANYTHING YOU SAY because it’s your view or opinion. My life is not based on your opinion therefore whatever you say is fine with me. I’m sixty plus years old and can except your views as yours. I assume you and all others have a life as I do. I’m not interested in changing you or anyone else. I’m simply makings suggestion or explain my views.

I’m not put out if you have a life, your own views or a different stance, Minnie. I often wonder why people think I’m not permitted to have an opinion?

Mr. Stith

Thanks Minnie.

I was using Jerry's Artarama but I found that "Cheap Joe's" WAS cheaper!

Glad that you find the "Gessobords" to your liking. I paint on nothing else. I have even used their smooth "Claybords" for some of my graphites.

Have a great evening!--Denny ;{

This is now my tenth year of researching the WWW. That way I get a bird’s eye view of what’s being posted pertaining to my life long dream or ballpoint pen art. I Googled (ballpointpenart, ball point pen art, ballpoint pen art, biro art, ballpoint drawings, sketches, doodles, illustrations, video’s and inklings) as always. Reviewing what gets published on many search engine results, their Image or Video findings is part of what I do as a publisher! That's another way of knowing what other artists and portals are doing pertaining to my interest.

While I was reviewing those findings Randy’s thread surfaced. Which means other search engines might also be publishing this thread. Naturally I thought what a great thing that was for the ArtWanted.com forum, Randy and the others posting messages. Needless to say, I decided to be civilized, will mannered and polite in all my messages. The bible tells me to count my blessings and to help others therefore such is done within my life.

People need to keep in mind that what we post is recorded before one billion others surfing the Web. If you’re interested in what people at ArtWanted.com think of me just visit my gallery and read the fantastic seven thousand plus comments left on my drawings. Facts speck louder than gossip or hear say.

I like everyone else have a reputation to up hold and that’s important because some Pastors, Christian friends and my family are tuning in, amen. Those people are important because they’re actually involved in my life and part of this community.

I’m interested in good will, peace and harmony plus introducing what a ballpoint pen can do as an art instrument. Going up against others isn’t enjoyable or worth while in my opinion.

Have a blessed day and life.

Jerry Stith

Minnie Shuler 09 Jun 2009

I'm glad you think that, Jerry. I had one rule with my children that worked the best....If you argue about it I get it. And I enforced it. No, contention (not the same as disagreeing and discussing) is not needed. Minnie

Jerry 10 Jun 2009

Minnie, I’m not like most artists because I was raised on military bases and take what was taught dead serious. In addition to that I’ve lived in cities populated with more than one million people for twenty-five plus years and am a conservative Christian.

Minnie, please let me explain my art program. I’m and American folk artist or a self-taught individual. I started a program (my program) called Ball Point Pen Art in the year 2000 via the WWW. I purchased (established) the domain names ballpointpenart.us, .net., org and .com for my folk art program in 2000!

My ballpoint pen art program is based on what an instrument and it’s oil based inks could do as an art medium. I’m an inker, part of the Pen and Ink Art movement plus a person with a folk art program introducing what a ballpoint can do as an art instrument.

MY PROGRAM is totally based on drawings!!!!!!! Because, I’m at that point a purist, a pen and ink kind of guy plus a person presenting what I love to the public via the Web. (My program has nothing to do with what AW is publishing as an art forum. My site has its own format, interest or focus and is not an open forum pertaining to what gets published.)

My ballpoint pen art program does not represent ALL OF THE THINGS THAT CAN BE PRODUCED BY A BALLPOINT PEN. That means I don’t publish mixed mediums generally, have any interest in doing so or promote those that do. My program is designed to show the world what a ballpoint pen can do so the stores will start displaying or selling the twenty one kinds of colored pens or refills I have posted at my site. (information section) In addition to that artists will get more recognition, sales, credit and become documented as ballpoint pen art in history.

Minnie, I’m documenting artists that draw with a ballpoint pen. That means two hundred and twenty people are being archived, documented, recorded or published as ballpoint pen art history. AW is doing the same thing yet on a larger scale. Bic has sold over one hundred billion ballpoint pens alone. You can’t tell me that many of those didn’t end up in an artist’s hand and expect me to believe it.

Money is the milk of politics therefore most artists are still hiding out because the bucks aren’t there or feeding their children and grandchildren. I’m brave enough to take a stance as an artist on what I love with or without the money issue clouding my visions.

Here at ArtWanted.com you can see that most artists are using other mediums. Some are doing mixed mediums using a ballpoint pen. Punch in ballpointpenart an see what surfaces!

ArtWanted.com is one of the larger art forums. They have an ink and pen and ink section for artists to place their works. I personally post with the ink section not the pen and ink part. The ballpoint pen artists with this site don’t even tag their works as being ballpoint pen art. That’s because they know its not important within the art community, a great selling medium or being represented widely throughout society.

Introducing a new art medium, instrument or movement is not a small task. In my life artists are the worst attackers or negative people I ever run across. I drew outdoors or in public for forty years as a portrait artist. Just about everyone was positive, a blessing or lovely as a person except fellow artists. They always had some snide or degrading remark about my ballpoint pens.

Minnie, I love your words, art and tremendous energy, amen. I support all the art you’re doing here at AW. Because art is a pretty wide open field. I however only publish drawings at my site or electric playground. Yes that limits me, rules out 99.99 % of the art being posted at this forum or within the Web, however it represents what a ballpoint pen can do by its self in the hands of some artists.

I’m still working on a long ballpoint pen speech that takes in your views, interest and stance. You’ve brought up some very, very important issues that I think others have in mind therefore commenting on such is vital to my interest.

I apologize for any misunderstanding, lack of clarity or misplaced words that some how might have put you off, amen!

Minnie, my grandchildren are a blast and something special from God, amen. Minnie, I’m still interested in what your vision of this art movement is? I noticed that you’ve brought a large audience to this thread therefore your words of wisdom are a most!

Your friend, Jerry

Minnie Shuler 10 Jun 2009

Jerry, I'm going to ask you a series of questions. You may answer or not but I would rather you say yes or no and I will explain why later. Can I do my ballpoint pen drawing on colored paper?

Jerry 10 Jun 2009

Minnie, your bear picture looks pretty tight to me. Yes!

Minnie Shuler 11 Jun 2009

Yes, it is tight. I did this several years ago. Yes is a good choice. There are many beautifully colored papers that can add beauty to the art, without distracting. Yes is probably the choice I would have made. I am going to choose No. Now if I can only think of some reasons why. Let's see...in the extreme I am going to create the colors and shading that I want using whatever medium I want, have it printed as a poster and do my ballpoint pen on the colored paper. I can go to the scrapbook store and pick out a nicely designed manufacturer's paper and do my design on it. I can print a photograph and do my design on it. I think you get the idea. Perhaps you want to add some conditions on your yes answer. Minnie

Minnie Shuler 11 Jun 2009

Here is the testing I have done on the Uniball Check Fraud pens which come in black and 7 colors. The pink is a little weak. The ink was hard to put on the slick paper, obviously not designed for that type of paper, even smears when fresh with your finger. It says it's designed to sink into the fibers of the paper and be immovable. There was some reaction with the amonia and fading. I could not saturate and rub any more without destroying the paper. Minnie

Minnie Shuler 12 Jun 2009

I like the new Uniball check fraud pens. The colors are nice and bright and they smear somewhat when fresh with a mechanical pencil eraser, they smear a lot and almost fall into completely faded with amonia, on watercolor paper. I think what I would say on a yes answer, Jerry is solid colored papers as they come from the manufacturer are good as well as multitoned papers such as rice paper that do not have artristic designs attributed to another artisan. The ink on the printed poster of an image of my own making would be considerd mixed media I would think, not colored paper. This piece is a study for a larger illustration for a book my sister and I are working on. I used the uniball check pens. They have a nice build up, letting you get a fresh green as well as an olive. It is a mixed media as I could not achieve the light colored cremes a nd golds needed for the blossoms and some degree of yellow was added with a colored pencil. Cremes on the flowers is acrylic paint. The background is a black ballpoint pen abstract design. The color is altered on the computer by taking one layer, changing the color to a burnt orange and ribbing up the saturation like a neon bulb; droping an identical layer to the original design on top of that and manipulating the opacity to get the effect I wanted. Third and fourth layers are altered fractals...last layer with the outside white boarder removed is the uniball pen comp. Will also post my second test on the uniball pens. They show promise of much versatility. Please keep in mind, Jerry, this is just a study and doesn't have the polish. Ink drawings as you know, take a lot of time.
