I`m afraid if I have a "on and off switch" myn is stuck on on. I just see inspiration in EVERYTHING! It drives ever one in my house crazy when every when every time they look at me i have a pencil in one hand and a piece of paper in the other.

"it drives (sic) ever one in my house crazy when every when every time they look at me i have a pencil in one hand and a piece of paper in the other"

Whatever could be the problem with that? Are you neglecting your other responsibilities or something? If not, I think you should consider the possibility that the other people in the house are the "crazy" ones.

Its just that the second I`m done doing what I`m suposed to do I go right back to it. And i think my family would like to spend more time with me. I just like being alone alot. and I don`t like being botherd when I draw.

Go with your creative drive... as you write about your upbeat energy and passion. Although, later in life your perspective will change, and so will your priorities. I have 8 children (27 - 6), three grandkids, and am I tired? DAH!!! Of course. Do I have passion... yes. Do I have the time? Only when it's right. Your born with the gift, that'll never be taken away! We all have a gift, it's how we use it to inspire one or the mass. That's the whole deal man....

ok i admit it... you found me out... im not an artist. im just a flea bouncin on the back of a dog... geez.. now the world will know.

This post was started just to create a conflict...no other reason. You are stating an opinion just as someone would throw a fist. You stirred the s***, are you now happy? Is that your primary goal in life?

If you are truly a light switch, I have no problem with that.....be who you are.

Quite frankly, I prefer to describe myself as an artist.

MH Heintz 03 Apr 2007

I guess it's paradoxical with me: whenever I start off NOT in the mood to draw is usually when I end up with (what is to me anyway) some of my best work...when I'm cocky things usually go the other way. I don't think of it as having a "switch," it's more like trying not to reverse-jinx myself everytime I sit down to draw. Good or bad however, it's rare that I don't finish a piece...I always like to see how they'll end up.

Leah Jaarveth 03 Apr 2007

I swear you have posted this before word for word...lol I guess you just like the topic?

Cogito Ergo Spud: I Yam what I Yam.

I make some unique stuff.

If you choose to call that "artist", that's up to you.

Many artists need to be in a mood to draw. I kinda just sit there and let some scrap of an idea bild and when I have something I need or want to do, out comes the paper and pencils. True artists just need to be able to thnk an allow a unified thought to come to mind. Also, a true artist should be dedicated to their work, not someone who only draws because he or she is bored or needs to. He or she shouls enjoy art and make an effort to improve upon and persue their talents

I create out of a need to complish something everyday, sure that may sound ridiculous to some, but for me it helps relieve aniexty, depression, I use to do drugs, drink, and varies other things, i grew out of them (thank god) so creating art from a blank page is a magical event, learning varies programs keeps my brain active and constant, expanding an idea, conveying a thought, living out fantasies, expressing dreams as images, seeing another world whether it exsists in reality or not. Creating is freedom. It invokes mental happiness and joy regardless of whether or not people like my works or not. My concern is for my mental health, to look forward not back. This age in technlogy is amazing, not to take advantage of it would be a greater loss to me as an individual. Im so greatful to those who created computers, programs etc.... Thanks

I never thought creating art would be my forte, but over time ive realized now i love it so much, i thrive on it!

Not unlike Yourself,I think I am Therefore I am.It also helps to be a bit looney.

DebraAnn Kasimakis 09 May 2007

ARE YOU A TRUE ARTIST?

I guess it depends on which shmoe you aretalking to.....

Kristof Frazier 09 May 2007

There are times I am either emotionally and/or physically exhausted. Also depression has this nasty habit of making anything you find joy or comfort in not be so much at that moment. I may not be creating something that others can see but even when I am my most weary or unable too..I am still thinking of my projects..seeing everything around me as art..or how I could portray it, etc. I obsess. I see things around me and pick out the oil paint hues that would mix well to represent them...the brush strokes I would use, etc.

Creativity of any kind needs energy. I am not a machine ( although my wife may tend to disagree with that). As I see it, even if you are not producing a product you are always "creating" by merely *being*.

Yeah.... that is a bold statement to make. It really depends on the person. Some of the greatest artists ever had 'time off', so to speak.

Do you suggest that someone who works quickly to finish a painting is more of an artist than someone who spends a year on a single piece off and on?

And what about skill and technique. Someone can draw 50 drawings a day and not reveal as much skills as someone who only does one drawing per week. So who is more of an artist? The guy who spent years working in order to show great work once a week or the guy who produces 50 drawings per day of the same tired process?

Ted Hebbler 12 May 2007

Dont mean to sound negative...but this is a very stupid topic..I mean you can paint now instead of asking such a worthless question.....peace and i bet you can create while on the toilet too hahahah

Dominic Melfi 12 May 2007

I think all true artists have one ear.

Then of course there are real artists that have 2 ears.

Nancy Wood 13 May 2007

I think true artists work best when inspired. It is a passion rather than a profession. To force oneself to create art is not art at all because it does not come from within.

The original question seems illogical to me. I don't see any intent to cause conflict though. If the question is put in reverse then it might make sense. "Are you a fake artist"? A fake artist being one who steals others ideas or creates fakes. The culprit takes work made by others, reproduces them or the style, and claims them as his own.

Or put one other way in an opposite form. "Are you a false artist"? Hmmmmm. A false artist might be like a fake artist but there is something else about this question that provokes thought. It would seem a false artist is a person that would claim to be an artist but yet has never made anything - painting, sculpture, macrome owl.

In summary, if you don't cheat, steal or lie and you make things artiscally, whether good, bad or ugly, you're an artist, truly unto yourself.

Rimbaud quit poetry when he was twenty one or so but will be forever remembered as one the greatest artists of his time.
