Marty,You are right,training to hard can stress you out to admit its like a job stressor in which it should not be treated in my opinion as. Now maybe to make alot of money from it can be like a job which could be hard to do. Just as I look at it to make money at visual art is to know your a artist who is so inspirational to others who want it takes talent that is so visually touching but who knows. So either way I look at it you can have all the training if thats how you cope with art but however your art turns out should never be a disappointment and something to give up.

There is such a thing as a starving artist if you want to make money is a risk but mainly art to me is letting people see it.Which is not a risk to anything it is letting people see it as is.

Now do not get me wrong selling art has a certain talent to it but so many people out there are competing at it, your bound to get confused or upset.

Just think whatever art you like to look at can be relaxing,funny or so many feelings its out there to help you.So to enjoy everything as is with your art. As they say competition can be tough but if to never make it, that does not label your art.

Marty; after reading about your interests in trying other art forms I want to say that sometimes I want to have fun (which is a lot better to do than hard disciplined artwork) so I use my interest in sculpture and choose a project which has a low financial investment and has what I think elements which have never been used by any other sculptor. So today I gathered some PVC pipes and glue and connectors with the idea of making an 8' tall kinetic sculpture abstraction of a flower which moves by wind. I plan to paint the pipes with pastel colors in acrylics.

Anyway we all have a creative spirit which can be blocked by the worry of making "serious" art which costs in frames, materials and showing. The whole think in sculpture(unless you carve like the Greeks) is to just have fun and enjoy not worrying if it has monetary value....

That all depends on how much time one is willing to put into the endeavor. We get better using our hands, not sitting on them.

True enough Cole.

Time into one's endeavor also can depend upon the amount of passion which drives us. Without this then the performance become routine and mundane because hands will only take direction from the heart which has to be into the task and only our minds can inhibit the outcome.

One can't talk a masterpiece, only imagine it. I say think big even in small tasks.

In art it's a mistake to settle down and proclaim oneself a master...who is then satisfied with their level of achievement where in fact there is always room for some improvement of what is being done An artist should never settle for what they have done and then walk about collecting accolades and social preening unless it's in an atmosphere of art.

I agree, we have been discussing this as artist, and even those outside the artistic community trying to define the undefinable, art, a crack in the sidewalk can be photographed and be art, and be as great as any of the great photographers, art is what we as humans are uniquely able to understand, because we have the human spirit. Art and the human spirit are interlinqued, until we understand that , we do not know art, at its purest and rawest form.
