Ive tried Oil paint over Acrylic and to be honest it wasnt a good combination for me. It hindered the drying time for the oil as there was no absorbtion for the oil to dry into the canvas.

Arcylics are lower grade in color vibrancy and transparancy as well, so i cant see the point of combining them as a mixed media. Im relieved to be using oils full-time again and will only use arcylics if a commission demanded it.

I say just use whatever works the best for you and what you are comfortable with. Its more of the end result that counts more than what you used to get there. I just love all the varieties of mediums that people do use. From the most popular to the most unusual. i know that i try to sample all different kinds of mediums. I get bored using just one thing. I like having different options for different moods i am in. I just love creating. My best medium for portraits so far is pencil. I have use acrylics, pastels, leather tooling, pyography, pen and ink and my newest thing i am working with is airbrushing. I love them all but i feel my best results is pencil. By the way i have enjoyed all of the images posted on here very much. Such great talent out there. :)

I guess the best medium is whatever medium you are most comfortable in? I am envious of those of you how can paint, i have never really tried to learn, and probably to stuck in my ways to start now. Great work on show guys. My most recent portrait below, colour pencil, altough i have started using primsacolor which are more vibrant and easier to mix than the ones i used before. I have also discovered blending sticks for the first time which are great tools.

A.S. I am in fact Ulk Master, I earned the title many years ago, when I had a job painting polyester fish ; first we cast the fish in a mold over a real but dead fish, in that mold we sandwich fiberglass and polyester, --- and when the creature was hardened and sanded, I used an airbrush, to paint the right pattern in the right colors, so the fish named an Ulk, or any other types of fish the group delivered for educational porpus, looked exactly as a real fish, Airbrush can do that. Reson I havn't bought a new and a new compressor plus all required is not that I do not need one or two, but I am afrait of the issue with the air, -- Has no workshop and atleast that I remember, that, the best is to have a decent air circulation. On topic, I recon mixing various types of paint with an airbrush, is an option.

I think the best medium to use is the one that the artist is most comfortable/experienced with (unless it's for practice purposes.

And if I ask "what the costumer like the most around the world !?" Do you think that one medium will be more used for some raison ?

Most of my costumer order white and black for the raison. Is it the same in other contry ?

There is my latest one (finished yesterday)

I like when a portrait reflect a person's charecter. attitude in such a way you instantly reconise. And then it's not the person but the act I am talking about.

Allan Barbeau 21 Jul 2009

It's true.

When a journalist right a Portrait about somebody, he's not just talking about what the person look like but also what he does and what he likes. it's fun to do the same .

Fortunately, sometime, costumer ask just that !!

Guess you can't know all the world, and my taste in music stay with classic music Opera and particular artists like Eartha Kitt, Edit pfiaf and Maria Callas. Beside some other music like Metallica and a few others, but newer realy Micheal Jackson. I guess I was busy with something else when he made the hits. Except that I belive he was a victim newer the bad guy. I find more of the attitude I want to express these day's in this.
