Hey Andy, are you looking in. We could use your input, in a discussion type of way. Besides we've got to clear this all up before the Super Bowl.

N. Michael Bryant 06 Feb 2005

Sher, I can't even type 40 words a minute. lol Ya got a 10 word comment out'a me though, lol

Mark Peterson 06 Feb 2005

40 + words for a ten as well as 1 thru 5 sounds like a winner too Sher. I think what we all are looking for is that 6,7,8,9 range that is more realistic and whether we have numbers or not there will always be positives and negatives. I understand your reasoning and concern for the good of all of us, but in order to have a system that is valuable and a benefit to everyone there must not be exclusion of any kind. Bobs suggestion holds no exclusion of anyone and just might work. Utopia will not occur with in any system with over 10,000 members and I do agree with you that the system in place would work just fine if people used it correctly, but we both know that's not going to happen. I stress my dislike for the number based on my short time experience here at AW because of all the problems it has caused and if there is a way to keep the number that works for everyone I am just as much behind that. A 1,2,3 system might also work, being GOOD,VERY GOOD AND EXCELLENT....the ideas for numbers are endless as well as a system without and both can be just as effective when fine tuned and available for everyone.

Hello Mark..

Nice to see you.. and indeed, i think when we see a fellow friend-artist slammed by an unknown we all get very emotional. Been there many times, once for stan on this forum...

I think i usually over write anyway when i see 'perfect' work..i get all tingly and excited : ) ...i usually overtype, period.. and arent we all in that 6,7,8,9 range anyway? I havent any illusions.. its a fun site, thats all.. i'm not going to benefit professionally with ratings... i do spin in my chair at those beautiful comments..words are more powerful than numbers...

...sometimes i feel like im in a room full of gamblers with this topten hunger..and i shy away... : )

WESTERN ARTWORK By Denny Karchner 06 Feb 2005

ArtSig had a critiquing rule, you had to use at least 10 "descriptive" words. It was tough at times but very do-able. It would make someone think before "lowering the boom" on someone.--D

So much for saying your photograph is out of focus or as some photographers like to say, "it's just a snap-shot", or your abstract lacks balance, your clones border juvenille, or your blending of colours are really bad.

I couldn't say 40+ words, good or bad.

They're are programs out there that you can "nuke" the senders computer, but...I wouldn't do that....nope..

I responded to that part of the question on a different thread. How many words did I just use to justify a bad rating? And how many mediums did I just cover.

I say nuke the lowballers and get it over with, and if you really want an Honest Opinion, don't get pissed when someone gives you an 8 !

I could never find enough words to describe a 10. It is not the amount of words but the quality of the words that is significant.

I agree Andree, but at this time and stage of all the problems envolved and especially after what I witnessed the other night I find no suggestion to foolish or unworthy of some merit. Quality of words means far to little for those who are here for other interest than art so we will always have to deal with that unfortunetly. With respect for everyones Idea and as many suggestions that have been put forth Im quite certain a reasonable solution can be found. At this point I find every suggestion worthy of consideration because it is quite obvious we all want the same thing, and the system in place now just isn't working. A 7,8,9 would work as well....if one through six didn't exist along with the ten you have no perfect and since none of us are you elimanate much of the desire for retaliation, besides what are they going to retaliate with? a 7 which is GOOD, of course they would still have the option of using verbal abuse. That's why I would suggest the member be able to delete or hide comments in there portfolio beyond the current last 20 post that may be damaging.

Well Stan, when you get home; we've been here all afternoon, trying to sort out this mess. My overall impresssion, is that most members would sooner fight than switch.

Come monday morning, a few more will be crying about so and so did this; a few more will have boarded up the windows; and the'll all be saying: Andy, why don't you do something.

Today, we had that chance to let him know we are serious. Peacefully, seems to be the route most people talk, but not the route they want to walk.

I'm off to the Super Bowl. I will check back in, hoping to see a long list of: "Supercalafragilistics", but I won't hold my breath.

Thanks to some for being positive. If we wait until we have the perfect plan, that we can all agree on -- never happen. I had hoped that the members would see that, and be willing at least to get on board with one that is ten axe handles higher than what's going on now.

Y'all have a nice day now.

stan jones 06 Feb 2005

Good morning i have to sleep some time while this was going on it was my sleep time remember koalas sleep 20 hours a day

I think we are moving away from the real issue at hand its the ratings or not rating we are trying to deal with here

What ever way you look at it the system is flawed

and yes thank you Sher you have come to my aid just as i have done for some as well in the not so long past and as you are now learning to know I wont back down from anyone what was it you called me a wrestler loved that comment was lol

Remember last week i went and destroyed some ones portfolio for a pay back on Kathleen Nepia now if there was some thing in place covering the 1-5 like the lock out rule and being sent an e-mail from the moderator it could not have done with the thumbs rule as for the forty words no problem so whats to stop me from having a word document saved saying this sucks or some other words i choose to say to destroy some one copy paste lets move on the next piece and do the same

i still believe if you are going to go down the path of ( 1-5 ) then be careful you only get one chance you get locked out till the matter has been dealt with by aw moderator

i have discovered the isp is flawed as well unless your like me and have broad band with fixed isp number

Reason being is once you go of line 56k or even broad band after fifteen minutes your ISP number is refreshed

And Andree i have to agree big time about the posting of work by many of late far too much work is going up by so few and being done on a daily basis

Now lets get back to the question at hand please

stan jones 06 Feb 2005

Hi Andy or Staff members

could you inject some suggestions as to what way you would like to see this conversion go what direction or path would the owners of this web site take if it where in there hands and it is so come on any time with your valued comments

well i have to to work now will call back later lucky for some who can sit and watch the tv

Bob MacPherson 06 Feb 2005

Stuck with the question all day. All talked out. Gone to the game. If you find a flock or two who want to give up fighting for lent, send me an e-mail.

Seems a lot of us have got to say: "sounds like it's worth a try".

The other two choices are FIGHT among ourselves over what we try and what's wrong with it or FIGHT over the crap that's happening now.

I've opted out on those two.

If someone else had spelled out in detail a good alternative, answering most of the possible objections, I would go to Iraq to vote on it for them. I did offer just that and with few exceptions; pessemism won out.

I stand on my conclusion,: too many would rather fight than switch.

N. Michael Bryant 06 Feb 2005

How about this: No portfolio, ya can't rate. OR a list of 4-5 areas of strength or weakness. kinda like:

1. Good contrast (check here)

Contrast may need some work ( check here)

2. Overall Concept Effective (check here)

Overall Concept could be stronger (check here)

3. Style of Artist is Great (check here)

Style of Artist does not appeal to me (check here)

4. This Artist shows alot of Potential (check here)

These are 4 examples that might be a more helpful tool to use when viewing others Artwork instead of using numbers. I can tell you that I don't think most people will want to type 40 words every time when rating and commenting. It would get old after awhile.

stan jones 06 Feb 2005

Bob Supercalafragilistics another good idea has just hit the board like it

you have hit the nail on the head from the looks of it they want it to stay like days or our lives or some other soapy on tv

perhaps if i opened some new email accounts and got say an even twelve aw accounts and ran umuck seeing as there is no way of stopping me just think who would not or who could be top ten um just thinking outloud

Same old same old. Won't say what's wrong with it, or OK lets try. Just no water "Yeah buts", and "how about my idea?" This negativity is getting to me.

I just figured some one should step up to the plate. There was no one there. Suddenly everone wants to be, Can we not be supportive of something POSITIVE?

Thanks Leigh, Denny and Stan, and one or two others. I had enough. Going back to the ballgame, and will stay out of poletics till I finish my courses on tricks and negative approaches. Seems having something to complain about is often more important than correcting it.

Back to you Stan. Beats me.
