It's Morning again...

Terry- I went and had a look at your horses, they are fantastic!! I can't wait to see the end result with the 4 horsemen... and putting your work onto stamps.. thats a brilliant idea, didn't even know that could be done!!

Carrie, I am a firm believer in startin them young!! LOL. I'm glad you and Minnie liked the sunrise. There is something about watching the world awaken, that gives me the most incredible feeling of contentment.

Yesterday I went down and joined the Mission Arts Council.. I think getting more involved with my area and other artists is going to be a good thing for me.. I was pretty upset to find out that the Zoo did not want to take me even as a volunteer, but hey maybe its for the best. I will continue to go and photograph the animals regardless.

Minnie, that cat pic is so funny.. wonder how they got him to stay still whilst piling rocks on his head ;)

LOL Armando's Zen Kitty!! *I knew it was photoshopped... I was just pullin your yard-arm*

I think it will be good for me Minnie and fun. It's in this really cool old house (I'll take photos when it stops rainin) They have a Gallery for showings, a tea room, a gift shop, a beautiful garden out back, where they set up Camp MAC, which is Mission Arts n Crafts for the kids, for 5$ you can leave your child for 2hrs on some days you can brings your paints down and just pull in with the other artists and paint your hearts out :D

They are in the middle of carving a totem for the front (I think) I haven't seen it yet, it was all covered up when I was there.

Staying on the topic of the fish... The fraser river feeds into the Pacific Ocean... all along the Fraser are different Native Indian Bands, The tribe that is closest to this area is the Xaytem, I know there are others but I don't know all the names of the tribes yet. Many fish the Fraser for salmon, called coho salmon... they have these fantastic smoke houses where the meat is cured, smoked, dried, all sorts of different ways to eat it, they make the best Lox I have ever had, but the smoked salmon is second to none.

...."Hey TERRY: I was looking at your beautiful "sweet sorrow"; you write about your first step for the 4 horses: -- "This first one was completed in mixed media, with an oil background and acrylic for the horse itself"---

QUESTION: How the heck do you get an acrylic paint OVER an oil background? I know the opposite is possible, but acrylic is a on a water base: that will never stick on oil? Or did you paint FIRST the horsy and then filled in the background? Why did you choose for these two different media? Just curious, 'cause I'm always in for new stuff!"....

Hi Olga..

The background was already on an old scrap of canvas.. It had been painted on about two years previously with a very thin mix of oil... more thinners than paint.. so was extremely dry.. I certainly wouldn't advise doing it, I'd never normally put acrylic on top of oil..:-)

...."What a great idea to put your paintings on a postal stamp. I've seen it at the post-office, but never gave it a thought to put your own painting on one of them! "....

Mine are done through Zazzle.. you don't make a huge amount on them.. I think they earned me about $12 last year, but all those bits and pieces add up.. lol.. I really should go spend a bit more time on my Zazzle stuff..

Glad you liked them Pam..:-)

The 4 Horsemen is on the back burner at the moment as I'm overdone with other stuff..

I've had a contract to produce 40 oils a year for a couple of years now and it's been very lucrative, but a bit too much.. Next year I'm going to cut that number in half, so I have more time to play with my own projects.

Go have a look at Zazzle for details on the stamps..:-)

...."Wow TERRY, lots to do and I'm glad you take a respite and a break in between because otherwise it's hard to survive contracts and deadlines. It's great to be busy that way, but yes when it has to do with other people's vision(s) it's hard work that's for sure, such is life oh well, it goes into the greater pool of creativity anyway, or at least we would like to think so, and please don't you forget your heartfelt projects-on-hold (note to myself as well). But Congratulations, because artwork is good work :D "....

Yes it's a hard grind Minerva.. these contracted works are all fairly large seascapes and represent about 8-9 months of non-stop work. Also, these paintings are sold with full reproduction rights, which seems to delight their new owners. lol.. plus it gives me a couple of hundred extra on each sale..:-)

On the downside, it puts you under a lot of pressure... production plus two 3 week exhibitions ties you up for most of the year and, as you've sold the copyright, you can't add the works to your portfolio.. lol... my studio's become pretty much a factory, but never mind eh?..:-)

...."Dear Terry, your 4 Horsemen project sounds very engaging. Keep on. For what I've seen so far in your expressions- you have many layers, shadows and lights, kindness and depth and most of all your intuition. Your work is rich with it- and we benefit, as witnesses. I'm proud to know you."....

It's very kind of you to say so Minerva and I'm proud to know you too..:-)

The 4 horsemen will likely get done next year.. lol.. although I havent even started working on the sketches yet.. other than in my head.. I've already got a four foot square Oak veneered Plywood panel all ready to be painted on..

I've currently got one on the go at a similiar size.. see pic below.. and hopefully that will be finished too.. lol.. I've been bitting and batting with it since 2006 and it's kinda developed as it's gone along..:-)
