Oh and for those who don't want the governement to tell us what to do - does this mean I should be able to make up my own mind how fast I can go or whether to stop at red lights? There are instances where we have to give something up for the greater good and if healthcare for everyone isn't it - I sure don't know what is.

Something for nothing?

it will never happen and gradually all this delay and holding on will end up taking more and more and more from each of us.

Oh yes...

Take it from Old people SS that is way to do it.. How terrible that is..people on SS saved all their life and pid into SS and now they will take it from them?

That is awsome..wow its getting better Ofcourse those that are not on SS they CLAP CLAP CLAP to the Yama Obama

Like it was said OLD PEOPLE need to die..that is his policy..How on earth 70 years old going to survive if they take from SS already broke as it is..

is it right that 70 years old need to go back to work? is that idea behind it..?

APHOTO4YOU 14 Mar 2010

Minerva Gov is not paying for Nursing home all

They take persons SS when person going to nursing home..and that is used to for cost of Nursing home, which is often terrible care..and people are abused..

No matter if SS is $300 a mo or $2500 a mo.. They take it all when person goes to Nursing home..

Besides,

Lots of people are overmedicated and exposed to easily obtain presrciption chemicals..Which causes body even more problem..If people back of from medications and dont reach easily out for Tylonor for headache and let it go natural..they woudnt be sick as much..

Oh but no..we need medication for every little abnormality...and that is wrong..No wonder every person i know is sick from something..

If u take care of your body properly and dont get body used to to prescription u wont need to go to doctor every week

As a ex Insurance broker in the 80's i coudnt beleive when i walk in a persons home and try to sell medicare supplement how much drugs they had on table..

I am old..and i have never had insurance on me...Even though i sold insurance and recruit many to sell...I have never beleived in insurance on me..and to todays day i dont have one..

I learned how NOT TO USE prescription drugs...My house was full of it..cause my late husband was a doctor and he had samples...

I never used them

Doctors look at a person as a guiney pig and try to experiemnt what works what doesnt...

No wonder they are sick...

Me and my husband had a diff opinions on medicine..

And ofocurse i have a diff opinion on Health care

Well you know I will think this is a great topic! It is only luck that I have CANCER (Hodgkin's Lymphoma) and not my wife! Let's pretent SHE had it. She is the one with the job and a great insurance policy. If she had cancer she wouldn't be able to work... think about it...and then we would have no policy! No work equals no insurance! 14,000 Americans lose their insurance EVERY DAY!!! because they got fired, laid off or too SICK to work. Would you be covered? Maybe you have 80%/20% coverage? My CANCER will cost about $160,000 to cure which would leave you with $32,000 in debt. They will take your house to get their money. I have a Cadillac Policy: it will cost ME $1,000 and the insurance company will pay the rest!!:-))) So I shouldn't give a rip, right? Well, I do care because our system is broken. Any health care discussion must begin with this premise or you are just in denile. It is the most expensive in the world and covers the fewest people and as more drop out, get fired or laid off (or get too sick to work, don't forget) it gets even more expensive. It is a burden on American businesses. They can't afford these raising premiums, and we can't either. Hospitals all over America are shutting down, closing! 40% of General Practitioners will retire in the next ten years and there is no replacement in site. To get this right we need a discussion that is not fear based but open and honest, not along party lines, but what is best and most affordable and realistic. It is sad that even amongst artists this is a difficult thing to accomplish! More women who have just had children die within a year in this country than in 34 other countries. Are you comfortable with that statistic? The Biopsy needle they used on me was billed to my insurance company for $800..just the needle, not the doctor who used it!!! I did ask why? and was told that they only collect 40% of what they bill out! We have a system in this country where the sick with insurance pay for the sick without insurance! A single payer system where everyone is covered and everyone pays would be a lot better. more thoughts on this on my blog.

Sorry Minerva,

I missunderstood...

Thanks for posting that article http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100314/ap_on_bi_ge/us_social_security_ious

Very interesting..SS suposed to be not ridden by Govt...That money should have been there for old people when they cant work any more...

Its like airport taxes that pilots paying on a fuel ..like myself when i used own 3 planes in the 80's that money suposed to be for improving runways and upgrade of instruments on the airports..Oh noooooooooooooooo Govt usual tactic they used that money for all other nonsence..

Same ole ole burocrats..

Thats a good point Greg, the one about the few of us. I never had a problem with health care when I was working, and I was younger so I never used it so I didn't care. I am 36, still young by some people, but health issues start popping up. I think basic health care should be available for everyone who is a citizen.

The problem with helping everyone is it everyone who is working is paying for people who don't live here. I am all for helping my fellow human, but when its costing us billions it doesn't seem right to essentially take advantage of it. I am being taken care by a free clinic, I waited a year to make this choice to goto one, I don't expect them to pay for the procedure I need, so I will take pills till I get a job then have it done.

Mr Carlin... I know this type of thread goes against AW policy, but it seemed important for me to get a little information from others about it. So long as it stays civil I think its ok. I think we all agree that health care is important. I should have made the topic your thoughts on the Health care? as it pertains to photographers. Cause carrying around that heavy equipment can't be good for the joints in the long run.

markosphoto 15 Mar 2010

Greg, as far as government run, I don't like idea of government controlling things, they are in place to make laws for the people. We all know that isn't true anymore, they make laws depending on who pays them the most. I don't want a corrupt government telling me what to do. I am not saying all of them are corrupt, but some of them are. We vote for them to help us, not control us.

Greg Summers 15 Mar 2010

Markos - this so called corrupt government already runs things through regulations that allow unfair practices. If regulations allow all to be covred, illegal or not - it makes things more efficient. It works in all oter industialized countries at 1/2 the cost per-capita.

The way we do it now is so, so wrong and so, so inefficient and so as long as no one will let go of their own fear, we will be stuck in this system.

And for those who think Obama has done everything wrong - what other choices do you suggest. Be specific and detailed. If there were other solutions, no on came up with any during the period before the election. It took courage and his choices have kept us afloat.

markosphoto 15 Mar 2010

Greg, you asked what would be best. Right now I don't know. It may seem that the government approach may be the best thing, if and only if its a fix it a get out thing. They need to investigate the high costs of medical supplies, why I can get a bag of needles for cheaper than the cost of one at the hospital. I think to many people are in bed with our representatives that may be why nothing works our for the people.

Lower the cost so people can afford it, its expensive for an individual and business to afford health-care. I've had interviews for places that don't offer health care, its a tough thing cause 10 years ago I wouldn't have cared.

jerry carlin 15 Mar 2010

Thanks, Mark, I like this thread wherever it is found! Now here is a funny thought: If you take the entire American population as a whole, there are 34 countries in the world that have a better system than we do, meaning they live longer, and less expensive medical care. However if you only consider Americans, 65 and older, we have the BEST!!! That is when we have national health. We also have it for our veterins and some indigent. Why not for everyone? Now, about the illegals? We are so emotionally distraught over this issue that I do not trust anyone's math on it. Other countries solve this problem by putting the blaim on the employer, the corporations and even if someone hires a house keeper! The employers go to jail!!!If all employment were legal, meaning if you work you pay all necessary taxes, then illegal or not you would be paying in to the system. If you pay, you are covered! Minerva, I am very lucky to have a bunch of good doctors that seem to find more than 15 minutes for me, but I am appalled at the paper work and the staff necessary to support them! I am sure if people could sit down as reasonable human beings this could all be worked out. It is just that we are not reasonable! and there is the particullary American distrust of getting something you don't deserve!!! I really believe this is the real issue that has prevented us, the only industrialized nation on earth, from having health coverage. I got MINE Jack now you go get yours! We have this facade that we are a generous people but we are really not. What is funny is that I am a business man, have been for 40 years. I am the one who should be supper conservative, and I am!!! I want a system that is less costly and more inclusive, and more humane and fair and equal. I only want the health coverage that our own Congress has...for everyone. and until we get it I think it would be a reasonable thing to recind their health insurance, after all WE are paying for it!!!

markosphoto 15 Mar 2010

I don't think Obama has done everything completely wrong. I was behind him when he shut down the drilling in Utah, although my viewpoint at that time was over shadowed by those who were against him. Even if McCain was in power now, we would be here discussing his ineffectiveness as a leader. You could have resurrected our past leaders and they to wouldn't know what to do. We as people still have the power to vote, I wish we had the power to vote for things that effect us. We vote for people to make these choices for us, but its obviously not working. Maybe let us vote for the health plan, let us vote to help the banks or not. It is our money.

well Greg if you felt it condencending to you, maybe you should not hammered on me about the China thing,, you made a big deal about it as if I was saying they were the only one's cooking the books when in fact it was a small reference to a post bianca made. I was not expousing world econonics on it.. and to say I was misinformed on it when in fact I was not.. it is a truth about what China is doing, but my remark was not to open a debate about it..

and True, Blue Cross was bought out by Wellness from Los Angeles a number of years ago, but they are now advertising themselves out here as Anthem, so therefore my reference on Anthem.. The Fact remains , the insurance companies are gouging people with rate increases, opening up the state lines with being able to buy from other states could be regulated as insurances are now.. it just offers up more competition rather than having a small pool to pick from.. You have heard of competition right?? that usually will cause prices to come down if you have to compete with a LOT of other companies offering the SAME items for sale if you want the buisness.

You are the one who blew this whole thing out of porportion from your earlier post bringing up McCain when no one had and trying to hammer me on the China thing when it was a small off the cuff remark to Biancas post.. I am done with this post , I am here for the photography not to trade barbs with you.. so in the future if you do not want to feel condensended on.. maybe you should lighten up on your rebuttal remarks and see what is written first before you go off half cocked on things that you imagine were said..

A perfect rebuttal to your once again attacking me on the Anthem thing.. RE READ MY POST,,, did I EVER say they raised their rates universally?????????????? NO , I made a simple statement saying they raised their rates... I never said any states or ALL.. and as far as 37 vs 39 I was trying to remember it in my head when I wrote it and Erred on the side of conservative as I did not want to over state my facts.. This is exactly what I am talking about,, READ the post carefully before you attack someone on a POINT..

and Here is the article I was referring to

Congress opens probe into Anthem Blue Cross rate increases Two House panels announce they are investigating the hikes, which take effect March 1. Lawmakers ask the company's CEO to explain the reasons for the increases. February 10, 2010|By Duke HelfandCongress opened an investigation Tuesday into Anthem Blue Cross' impending rate increases in California as President Obama cited the premium hikes -- some as high as 39% -- in his bid to pass national healthcare legislation.

The House Committee on Energy and Commerce and its Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations announced they were examining the increases, which are set to take effect March 1. The subcommittee has scheduled a Feb. 24 hearing in Washington, while an Assembly committee in Sacramento has set a hearing for Feb 23.

Gary, calm down! This is why this is such a difficult topic, for all of us and the government. Don't take anything personally, or even politically: Just consider the economics involved and maybe just a little, what is fair and reasonable. Stay in, lets continue this discussion! If we, we are artists, remember? can't solve this how do we expect others to solve it? No emotions, just cash! How can we save it and distribute it fairly? If we think some people don't deserve health care, can we create a place outside of town for them to die so we don't have to see them or pay for them?

Gary Glass 15 Mar 2010

Jerry, I am not excited in the least, only making my point in some bold type ,my point with Greg was points for other issue he took out of context. but I am far from overly excited, but thanks for the comment..

I agree the heatlh thing is a mess and no easy fix..

jerry carlin 15 Mar 2010

Gary, that's great! "health care thing is a mess and no easy fix" We have a beginning! I am wondering on a National level no one is talking about increasing medical school's enrollment, or creating new ones? and more nursing school? and better and more grants for those attending? How about limitting patent rights to five years? or paying back government reseach money after you have made your first Billion or so? There must be a hundred non-political ways to cut costs and creat a better system! I would like to see ALL of them, Republican and Democratic! If we could leave our guns and name calling at the desk I am sure we would have better discussions. First we need a common definition of the problem and then a common goal, then a method to get there! Why can Holland and 33 other countries do this and we can't??? I still think it is our Puritanical background and secretly we think of illness as deserved!
