i have had art copied and sold in america...one of my art friends was in a hotel in the states and new of my work and was shocked to see a printed version of my painting ,enlarged ,on the lobby wall !!!!! he took a photo and sent it to me !!! what can you say ? exposure ....yet not !!! as my name obviously was not on it !!! i got paranoid for a while and stopped putting my art on the net in such detailed shots. then i started putting copyright words over the pics.word has got around what i do now portraits mainly and animals so i just display those and sold pics. there are so many cons in the world makes me sick....but we must not stop what we do as artists....most of us are caring not gullible......we are the ones trying to add colour light and love to the world.......without art the world would be a grey morbid sad place....long may you all reign

Hi Everyone, I haven't been on here much and to my surprise started reading this thread. I got a similar email myself in Sept. I replied with a very over inflated price for my work and got suspicious when they didn't ask for the size of the art work. I wrote to ArtWanted and let them know that I thought I was being scammed and sent them a copy of my emails. They told me nothing and said to proceed with caution...great advice there!....I trusted my gut and didn't respond at all to the buyer....after reading all this...thank goodness I did.

Here's my emails:

check with craig's list and ebay's scam alerts...they stay on top of most of the internet purchase scams.

So if someone for instance every wanted to buy my paintings they would have a hard time. I don't believe in scamming anyone so tell me if you could the best way to get noticed and be safe making money.

marlene burns 15 Feb 2009

stay local is the safest. you get a check from their local bank and can verify funds before you lose your art...or cash....does anyone still have any? LOCAL is why craig's list is successful....

I just got the following e-mail from a potential scammer today. I did e-mail him back with the obligatory "I only accept payments via PayPal" spiel, but I had a feeling he was a low-life. I doubt he'll respond.

This is so cool, isn't it? I got one too! They wanted to buy a double entry gate, about 20 feet wide and 7 feet tall, very complex gate for about $12,000!!! I e-mailed them back requesting the exact measurements since normally the gate posts are installed before the gate is made. This entry weighs about 600 pounds!!! They e-mailed me back saying they didn't care how big the gate was, just needed my bank info to send me a check! Dream job, huh?

I received an inquirey on another site last year. Suspected something was wrong and talked to Nelly about it. She WAS so cool! She Googled the address they sent and it turned up in Google Earth, right smack in the middle of a National Park ;-)) so much for that!
