I step up to the plate for those who have awakened one morning to find their works littered with hurtful numbers and comments... yes, i know those...

i have them still...

I have tried to give my best views on the cure to a stupid problem.. this, i think is my last best effort... i can live with the 1's, 3's and 5's... all i'm trying to do is help others : )

Sher--you SHOULD have the option of rejecting any non-paying members opinions and ratings. Since last April I've been rejecting ALL ratings (member or not)...and let them comment to their hearts content. (sure made me feel "bullet-proof".)

Last August, I dropped back to a non-paying status from a Premium membership--guess what? I didn't notice any decline in the utility of my membership--what a business model! Pay or Don't Pay, it won't make any REAL difference.

(BTW anyone who REALLY thinks they have over five works a month worth posting are probably fooling only themselves...)

Juan Gomez 31 Jan 2005

Fool your-self Mark Plawchen..very easy for me to post over five images..and other's out-there as well..that are worth posting..give us a break with such mundane comments.

Ellen Brucks 31 Jan 2005

Corinne & Sher, I am usually not a very vocal person on matters, but I am on this site because I want a talented aartis or two or three to honestly comment on my paintings. I'm a beginner in art and I want help.

sher richardson 31 Jan 2005

Mark VOA is correct...

I'm lucky to have at least one work a month even anywhere near a top ten recognition... goodlord i am not a vangogh or pollock.. ansel addams? i think not..

as i said this is my last ditch effort for AW to hear that paying members will not be rude and hurt others as a NEW who knows who accounts. 5%? my goodness, even i wish it were half paying accounts...

I wish for the option...

..and Ellen.. i try very hard to let anyone know what i see and feel about their works... in fact i go to the section of free accounts to look for treasure..in art..and talent...i have no problem letting you know what i feel : )

Jude 31 Jan 2005

Not everyone here, that is a free account member, is out to make trouble for those that are premium members or those who are in the top 10 club.

Nor do all the free account members have more then one account.

Just having a different point of view seems to cause problems, and the subject whined about most is the rating below a 10.

This is just food for thought. If there are members on AW with more then one account it is also possible for a premium member to have a free account.

I started as a free member, my only membership, to see if I liked the site, I had planed on upgrading my account at the beginning of the year but changed my mind.

I have made the decision to wait to up grade at this time Im just going to sit back see how things pan out.

I do think the site is a good site, as long as it is a fair to all. It is sad that a few have to ruin it for the majority.

I have stated my opinion on this in the past and don't plan to change it. I'll tell you right now, I'm a "free member". Say what you will about free members, but I've been honest in my ratings and never low-balled for the sake of low balling. This is becoming a club. Everyone hates lowballers, but ratings mean nothing, and only rate those who are 10's and all this stuff. So change the rating system and leave out 1-5. Now you have a 6-10, so if you're rated a 6, it feels like a 1? There is no end to the drama for the ratings. I know Premium members will disagree with me. What's new? Do as you wish. I'm a free member so my opinion means squat.

sher richardson 31 Jan 2005

Hello Jude..

You are correct, that not all free accounts are nefarious.. all i'm trying to do is allow those who pay money to post, also the option to reject possibly multiple named accounts ... i will take the negativity and flack for the idea...but an option is just that...an option to stop the lisa simpsons of this site....I dont mind being a very loud 5% of this site...

RQ Trietsch 31 Jan 2005

Whose to say a "Premium Member" wouldn't give a low rating?

At this point and time I'll just go with the flow until AW gets an Adult section.

Now if we would all just give honest ratings! Kind of like this discussion..I think it's worth an 8

Jude 31 Jan 2005

Sher, I guess I am going to trust in the AW staff to do their job and take care of the Lisa Simpson on the site. I have never had to deal with her, but if she is attacking by low balling isn't it possible that she/he is not going to discriminate and may low ball a non paying member. So the option should be available to all members paying or not.

I do not mean to sound like I an arguing with anyone, like RQ I would like to see honest ratings and discussions about art being about art.

JMO again!

When you consider all the talk ad time about this - it has to be clear the arating system isn't worth the trouble. I know no one agrees.

stan jones 31 Jan 2005

Sher I like the idea of no less than forty words or more why some one should give a one or a four its to easy for some one just make a remark in five words and leave a trail of hurt and destruction behind and blindly keep moving on to the next piece

The free accounts should stay even I started out this way till I decided I liked artwanted and wanted to learn more about what I do from some very talented friendly people thats if you ask they have no hesitation in helping you

As for the ratings well even I can go around destroying people as I did last night so we can all do it paying or non paying the only thing is I can lose a lot more than an unknown non paying member and I have written to the Staff saying I was sorry for my actions on that matter

But there has to be a better way so we all can feel safe in the knowledge that when we post pieces the misguided or uninformed or ill mannered folks pay the price for there actions

Steph Salt 31 Jan 2005

I also have the free membership option, I still can't afford to pay for the premium version, but I can always add a number to my comments until the artist stops the comments as well :)

I agree with Sher's idea, but if you think about it there is always some way round a ban.

And whats wrong with learning to ignore the painful numbers, like many have to ignore real pain to be able to get along with just living anything like normality.

If my friend can live with dying nerves in her left arm, then I'm sure we can live with low ballers.

sher richardson 31 Jan 2005

I thank everyone who responded and if you continue to respond, i truly appreciate it...

The membership here will continue to grow. If some of the problems are not resolved with a trial run of certain options, the problems will just grow. I am not trying to divide the members... Just jumping up and down to the AW staff to realize that if issues dont get a resolve, it may get worse -and we all have ideas they might use... i've been here a little over a year and the membership has doubled i believe... thats alot of artists... so please keep speaking out for the group and let anyone up in OZ, in on ideas and suggestions... This may not seem important to you all now, but if the group expands to 20,000 we might have headed some of the problems off at the pass...

TY* ... : )

AND a big PS... most of those artists on the free accounts know i seek out beautiful work no matter if you pay or not... i encourage and delight in your works, and never give a thought of your member status...ever... however, theres a problem and i hope you dont think me over zealous and insensitive... i respect all the artists on this site...and forgive me if i have made you feel badly, that is not what i'm trying to do in any way shape or form...

Good comments we see here. Keep them coming.

The truth is, there isn't a perfect solution that will work for everyone, or else we would have done it already. People are here on our site for different reasons and it'a hard to cater to everyone and make everyone happy. However, your suggestions and comments are very helpful for us to get as close to perfect as possible.

I think that we could all agree that, there is truly not a problem with the 'rating system', just the people that are abusing it. This is going to happen with any 'opinion' bases system, no matter how much we refine it. However, the rating system has greatly improved from the time we first launched it and we will continue to hear your suggestions & comments and refine it to get better and better (for those that want it). :-)

Let them eat cake then?.....we all know what that attitude did for the queens neckline....... Count the images in my portfolio...can ya tell? This makes no sense.

You see attacks where there are none Andree... I was simply speaking metaphorically...it is pure coincidence that I chose a ruler of France versus some other monarchy. I did not take your post personally at all...quite the opposite actually..I am a premium member. I am merely trying to understand the mindset that contributes to certain thought processes thats all. Because I just feel myself at a loss, seemingly not being able to understand some views that I read. I actually keep forgetting that you are french...is that bad?... :)
