2006 & 2007 Calendars

Just a quick note that we have less than ten 2006 calendars left in stock. If you have not got yours yet, we have dropped the price to only $11.95 for these remaining calendars. Click here to order while you still can.

We also wanted to mention that we will begin accepting submissions for the 2007 calendars starting on Feb 1st. Our goal is to always improve, so the 2007 calendars will even be better then this years. They will feature an improved back/easel, improved binding/glue and you will see a real-time preview of your calendar page when you upload your artwork.

In addition to our standard 2007 ArtWanted.com calendar, we will also be making a special 'Sci-Fi/Fantasy' and 'Photography' calendar as well. Three calendars to choose from and three times as many chances to be featured in one of our calendars. We decided to do a 'Sci-Fi/Fantasy' calendar, because this type of art is by far the most popular on our site. Additional 'theme' calendars may be done in the future, depending on the demand for them.

Like last year, there will be no fee to submit your artwork for the 2007 calendar. All members are welcome to submit artwork for the calendar. We just ask that you purchase a calendar, if you plan to put your artwork in it. Additional details will be given on Feb 1st, but we just wanted to give everyone a heads up so that you can be deciding which image and date you want to have for the upcoming calendars. See you back here on Feb 1st!

Sounds good AW! :)

I do have one comment to make...

Is it possible to have the calendar pages include a MEDIUM, or SIZE or anything?

For example... I see a picture in my calendar, by an artist I've never heard of, and it looks like a kinda so-so photograph. Then... I go to their site and find out it's a painting! And an amazing one at that! So photo-real! :) Do you see my point?

Being a colored pencil artist means that I am always fighting to showcase the medium, show what it can do, as it's often dismissed by painters... I would really appreciate it if underneath the picture, we could include a small line stating "Colored pencil - 14 x 28 inches" or something. I would even vote to have the NAME of the artist slightly smaller to fit this in.

What do you think? A possibility, or no?

(Also, my suggestion for a calender "Theme" would be "Animals" :) LOL)

Sounds wonderful AW!

What does the artist get for the use of their images? Just curious.

ArtWanted.com Staff 09 Jan 2006

Good question, let's explain...There are two types of products/services on our site. Some services (like the print program) are designed to put money in the pocket of our members. Other products (such as the book & calendar) are designed to bring exposure to the artist. Yes, we do know that many artists will get money from a job or artwork, because of the exposure, but it will not happen for everyone. There is simply not enough profit made from these type of 'exposure' products to distribute between hundreds of people. The royalties would be less then the cost of a stamp to mail the check. Because of this, these products are geared toward making the artist more well known.

All of our services/products are optional for any of our members. It's up to each member to decide which products they want to participate in. For those that want more exposure to their portfolio, we try and make the cost as low as possible for them to participate. We hope that all our members will want to participate in all of our projects, it will only make them that much better. But we also understand that some artists are to the point in their careers where they don't need any more exposure, they just want royalties. For those in this situation, we understand and we are happy that you have reached this point. We hope to bring many artists to this same point through some of our efforts. The calendar is just one of these ways we can accomplish this.

I agree with Christina. It would be nice to know in which medium the artwork was made :)

Susan Poda 10 Jan 2006

I agree with Christina..looking through my 2006 copy, that was the one category that I found lacking..Thanks AW.

Great news AW! and thanks for the heads-up! I have really been enoying the 2006 calendar a lot. So many great pieces in there, bringing exposure to a wide variety of artists here. Though I had the same thought, the only thing it was lacking was the meduim in which the artist used. I hope maybe you would consider including that in the next calendar. Otherwise, sounds great, I hope to submit something new for 2007!

Amy Nolan 10 Jan 2006

awesome news! Ill be looking forward to the sci fi fantasy calendar! Im planning to submit for the 2007 calendar ^_^

Steven Torrisi 11 Jan 2006

For the 2007 calendar I also think there should be space for above or below the name for the title of the work (can be in small print) because art without a title loses half of the effect of what the artist is portraying.

jennifer blenkinsopp 11 Jan 2006

I agree with Stephen, all the better if there is a title with the image.

Lynn Dempsey 11 Jan 2006

i also agree.. i think it would be a great idea to also have some info (size, medium ect.) with the image

Kelly Barrett 11 Jan 2006

Space would be a great plus.

It would be nice to have a line or two below the name to include whatever info the artist felt was most important (IE: Title, Medium, Size, web address) with a limited number of characters per line.

I like the idea of the Sci-Fi/Fantasy and Photo calendars.

Will we be limited to the number of calendars to which we may submit work? (only one theme?)

ArtWanted.com Staff 11 Jan 2006

Thanks for your suggestions, keep them coming. We will see what we can do about incorporating these suggestions.

At first, artists will only be able to submit one image for one of the calendars. This is to allow as many artists in our calendars as possible. However, if we get close to the print deadline, and the days have not been filled up, we will allow multiple submissions from each artist.

Elizabeth Pujalka 17 Jan 2006

My suggestion about additional "theme" calendars is: flowers :)

Trevor W Gratton 19 Jan 2006

I love the idea of the new 'theme' calendars and it would be nice to expand on these. I'd love to submit myself, when the time comes - it'd be some great promotion for my work and hopefully some much-needed commission work might come my way as a result - but one things puts me off. Living in the UK, the shipping charge is going to be so much more than domestic US shipping, possibly more than I'd be paying for the calendar. Will you be furnishing us non-US members with international shipping rates, so those on a tight budget (errr, me!) can decide if we can make the investment?

Cristina Marsi 19 Jan 2006

I live in Italy, and indeed what i spent for shipping was more or less equal to calendar's cost.

ArtWanted.com Staff 19 Jan 2006

Yes, we know this is a problem for many of you. We wish it was cheaper to send things Internationally. We research the cheapest ways to send our products to everyone around the world. Many times we will even lose money on the shipping cost when we mail it out to some places, because it gets so expensive. We wish there were cheaper ways of sending our products so that more people could get them.

The little easel on the back of my calendars were upside down. Need to correct that for the 2007 calendars. Still enjoying it.

Susan

ArtWanted.com Staff 23 Jan 2006

The easel was put on the calendars upside down on purpose. We found that the calendars sat up better with it upside down, then the way you would like it should go. We will have an improved easel for the 2007 calendars.

Steven Torrisi 23 Jan 2006

Have any firm date when submissions will be accepted, and even firmer a date for notification for those of again wanting to judged for inclusion instead of paying outright for a place?
