ArtWanted.com 2006 Calendar: Call for Entries

We are excited to announce that we will be putting together another day-to-day calendar for 2006. The 2005 calendar sold out and we think that it's a great way to see ArtWanted.com talent on your desk every day of the year.

We will be the first to admit that we had a few bumps with the 2005 calendar. However, we have listened to your suggestions and spent the last 6 months getting a plan in place so that we make sure 2006 is a great success.

CALENDAR DESCRIPTION:
The calendar will feature 365 'tear-off' pages, for each day of the year. Each day will feature a different ArtWanted.com artist and display their name and website address for more information on that artist. There is a fold out cardboard easel in the back that tilts the calendar perfectly to sit on any table or desk. The artwork featured in the calendar will contain a large sample of traditional art, digital art and photography of our members. The final size is 4.5" wide and 4" tall. The cost of the 2006 calendar is $14.95. We also offer discounts for the more calendars you purchase.

SHIPPING/HANDLING:
The shipping/handling is based on how many calendars you want and your destination. US Shipping is $4.95 for US Priority Mail. All calendars shipped within the US will have a tracking number that will be emailed to you when they are mailed out. Air Mail Shipping to Canada is $9.95 and anywhere else in the world is $19.95. All pre-ordered calendars are guaranteed to be shipped out by Oct. 31st, 2005 so you can have them in plenty of time before the new year starts.

CALL FOR ENTRIES:
There is no charge to submit your artwork to be considered for the 2006 calendar. Both Premium and free members can submit their favorite images for the calendar. Due to limited space (365 images) not all entries will be accepted. However, we will reserve a page for the first 300 artists that pre-order a copy of the calendar and submit an image. They will also get to pick which date they want to display their artwork on. The dates will be assigned on a first come, first serve basis. We will accept artwork entries until Aug. 31st or until all the dates in the calendar are booked. We do ask that if your artwork is accepted into the calendar, you purchase at least one of them to see your work.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES:
All artwork entries must be original works by the artist. The same image guidelines for our website will apply for calendar submissions. Due to copyright laws, we can not accept fan art or any other works of copyrighted or trademarked characters for the calendar. The image files must be at least 1200 pixels long an in RGB format. 'Landscape' layout images are preferred over portrait layout images (longer images are preferred over taller images).

HOW TO SUBMIT YOUR ARTWORK:
To submit your image(s) for the calendar, make sure you are logged in and simply go to the following page and fill out the submission form.

SUMMARY:
We are getting an early start on the 2006 Calendar to make sure we can ship them all out before October 31st. We encourage everyone to upload your calendar images ASAP, because it may get filled very quickly with no submission fee this year. We look forward to making this calendar a big success and we look forward to seeing the talented artwork on the pages of next year's calendar.

If you have any questions, please let us know. If you have any questions about the 2005 calendar, we ask that you send an e-mail directly to our staff about these issues. Thanks!

Shouldn't it be the other way around?

What we mean is the following. Let's say we want to participate in this calender event. We would give the rights to use one (or more) of our artworks for free and on top of that we have to buy at least one calendar ($ 14.95) and the shipment costs ($ 19.95)!

In other words, the artist has to pay in order to have their work on a product. To us this seems the world upside down. The right and proper way should be that the selected artists get a so called "review copy" for free, because, after all they've submitted their artwork.

IS anyone else having trouble uploading their images? I keep getting error message. I even got an error message when I tried to report the the problem.

ArtWanted.com Staff 13 Jul 2005

We see that we have had over 100 images submitted in the last 12 hours, so it appears that everything is working. It must be an issue with the file you are uploading. If you can't get it to work after a few more trys, then you can e-mail it to us.

Make sure that it's a JPG image in RGB format. If it's not, then you will probably have problems uploading it.

Willem and Madeleine -

We appreciate you bringing this issue up. It's a question that comes up on every project that we do that we need to explain...

For every artist project in the world, there are different ways to run it. There are some companies that charge the artist to be part of an art project, because of the exposure they will get. This is also a way to narrow down the entries to those that are really interested in the project. An example of this would be the showcase books that charge the artists thousands of dollars to be included in the book.

There are other companies with large sponsors that seek after individual artists and directly solicit their work for a project. In these cases, it's usually free to the artist or they may even be paid. Some artists are happy and willing to pay for exposure, while others feel that they should be paid for anytime their artwork is displayed. It's just a personal opinion and this is why it's 100% optional to participate in the calendar. If anyone does not like the concept of the calendar, then they simply choose not to participate.

Last year, we had a fee to participate and the artist also had to purchase the calendar. This year, we have dropped the submission fee and made it open to anyone to participate. We feel that this is a good step in the right direction. We do ask that if your artwork is accepted, that you do purchase a calendar. This is because we don't want to fill the calendar with a ton of artists that don't even care to see how their artwork turned out in the project. We feel that most people that are accepted would purchase a calendar anyway, just to see their artwork and to have the calendar, so it's not really a big deal.

Someday, ArtWanted.com may have a large corporate sponsor that is willing to pay each artist for a submission. Until this day comes, we will keep things optional and up to the artist to decide for them self if they want to participate in our projects. Hopefully this explains a little bit more why we have decided to run the calendar this way.

Done! Image uploaded, but I was not asked to specify which date I would prefer.

This image is particularly special on August 2.

Let me know if I should be specifying my preference elsewhere.

Thanks

I'm having trouble uploading also. Keep getting an error report. Temp files are all cleaned out. I think one may have uploaded. Can't redo it to be sure- error in line 101. Can't upload a second either- error. I submitted error reports.

Want to order too but I'd like to get an image in. Can't order till I'm sure it uploaded.

Thanks

When will you have a decision on whether or not artwork submitted without purchasing a calender first has been accepted for inclusion, so we can get in on purchase-a-date option if not accepted automatically.

Kristi Mashburn 13 Jul 2005

hi , i submitted my work and purchased a calander , how do you know if your one of the first 300?

ArtWanted.com Staff 13 Jul 2005

We have tested the upload page with multiple files and are not seeing any errors. If you continue to get errors, please e-mail us the images and we will post them for you and let you know.

We will be accepting entries until Aug. 31st, or until space runs out. If you have not paid for a calendar, you will be notified in September if you have been accepted or not. If you have purchased a calendar, you can assume that you will be accepted as long as your images meet our guidelines. We will add a notice to the upload page once the calendar has been reserved to 300 people letting everyone know that after this point, you will be notified if you make it in or not.

I have a quick question - Can I submit my picture for the calendar, hold my spot by purchasing a calendar, but change my image before your deadline of August 31st? I have a "work in progress" that I would absolutely love to have in the calendar, and I *think* I can finish it in time! However, in the meantime, I will order my calendar and submit a different artwork. Is this ok AW? :) Thanks!

Nancy Costley 13 Jul 2005

Can I leave my coprright sentence on the work? But allow you to use it? And if I reserve an image can I use a portrait format?

joan warburton 13 Jul 2005

I tried again and it worked however the final invoice came up wrong. I'll email you. Thanks again.

ArtWanted.com Staff 13 Jul 2005

You can have until the end of July to upload an alternate/final image, but we wouldn't want it to pass this date. It looks like we may have enough people reserve a spot in the next few weeks, so that we can start printing early. We won't wait until the end of Aug. to print and accept images, if all of the pages have been booked. We suggest that you upload an image that you like and will be happy with for the calendar now, and if you finish the other one before we close the door, then you can upload that one.

Yes, you can leave copyrights on your own images.

Thansk Sher!

Joe Bartz 13 Jul 2005

Just a suggestion but I would pay more if we had a plastic easel like the one you have displayed here:

I actually have my 2005 AW calendar glued onto an old plastic easel I had from a previous year.

wendy bandurski 13 Jul 2005

Like anything we do for the first time the learning curve is steep....I am glad to see you incorporating what you discovered from the 2005 Calendar and doing a 2006 Calendar.......

I am sure it will be a success! :)
