Latest Comment...

Well let's begin with ...that is an interesting comment. I am now retired graphic artist/ cartoonist. Made a living after 'leaving art school' at the end of 2 years. I have to say that most of what I learned was in actual 'advertising world'. Got my first artist job as a layout artist for ads etc. Back in the 60's worked without computer technology of course until early 80's when some was available. However, I deviated from ad world to doing 'portraits and caricatures' at events. Made a better living doing that until about 2 years ago. I am now doing watercolors and acrylics and loving it, but starving. Well not really, depending on Social Security. Got to say that I developed my talent from actual work and simply experience. I believe that art school gives you the basics you need I will always remember in one of my painting classes my art teacher used to say "You have to learn to SEE"...what he meant is when we were sketching or painting a subject, whether it was a still life or a live model you had to 'keep your eye on the subject' more the on the paper or canvas. Original Post: What % of artists actually went to art school?

Maybe you want to keep that confidential?

Here is an interesting question. How many of the people working and making a living as artists went to art school...for the full 4 years....and got a degree?

How many of you "artists" out there saw the movie "Art School Confidential" with John Malkovich? What a strange but interesting movie! Recommended viewing... especially for those of us who went to art school. The characters are so true to life. I found it darkly amusing.

Thoughts anyone? on....both topics.
