I have read all this and been refusing to join in again..but I cannot resist as looks like AW is looking at options. I say again...get rid of the numerical voting..leave the other voting to be assessed on the number of views each 24 hours..on a numerical value..not in 10's or anything as complicated..a simple counting option...20 people view..the score is 20..the most gets the award, if members tie..they all get listed..why not??? Get rid of the need to 'woo' other members so they will vote for you...like someone said..its a popularity game not an art site. The voting should be on the value of the viewed image, not on anything else. Another alternative would be to not show the member identity when voting, and maybe do away with ArtWatch..which may be the culprit as its sending members to just the selected people.. Somehow encourage members to look for the photos they want to view. I also think it is perfectly fair to only give voting rights to members...no other club lets non-members have the same privileges and allow them to ruin ratings of members. Like I said..its a good site..so why muck it up by squabbling over who is the most popular member???? Is it thatimportant??????? Enjoy the site and use it to have your images exposed, critiqued, and commented on....and maybe sold. Another point...no-one will buy an image that is rated low...so please...do away with the numerical or any rating system. It is not working.
I had two ideas for AW:
1 - Instead of having one Top Ten, what if we have one Top Ten for each artistic discipline? A Top Ten for painting, another for photography, another for drawing, etc... I think it would be more fair, since per example, a drawing would be beated by a drawing and not by another stuff completely different... and of course more chances to be in the Top.
2 - When rating artwork, allow the users to select which style of art they want to rate, and not to force them to see everything. Per example, if I like drawings and paintings and I do not want to see the other stuff, it is a waste of time - and pretty boring - to have to skip them all.
What do you think?
