Hi Anna, I suggest searching digital artist sites with photos (maybe AW has some good ones?)and maybe you can find something to refer to, but not copy.
I found a digital tutorial that might help you some also. http://tutorials.epilogue.net/digital-art/painting-rocks-and-grass-in-photoshop
Just type digital rock photos into a search engine (like I just did) and you might find lots of other suggestions. Good luck, Ann
