ok David. I understand your point of view. The rating system is extremely flawed. We all know that. That is why you can't take it to heart. But in my case I don't rate art that I would have to rate below an eight, because it's not in me. I skip it. Also don't rate work that is loaded with 10s already. The 10s I give mean something to me. I don't give out 10s like they were candy. Trust me, I take art very seriously. I've hidden the ratings/comments on my portfolio, because I think sometimes people are influenced by these. I only rate pieces that grab my eye. I don't rate to receive 10s, I don't rate to kiss butt. If I get in the top 10, it's a good feeling. I don't expect it, I don't ask for it.It's always a surprise, and sometimes I feel guilty because I know it doesn't belong there. I think from your viewpoint, you feel the 10 should be strived for and earned when you are worthy of it, through time and effort. David, that will never be a reality here. Too many of us, too many points of view. And that's ok, because there is still value in it as is. And that's not to say anything in the top ten doesn't deserve it to be there. David, relax and be more generous with yourself. You are a good artist and you deserve that pat on the back your father never gave you. Trying to win approval that was never given means you will never win. One last thought David. Unlike you, some people, when told they are not good enough, will respond by simply giving up.

Original Post: Scoring

I really like the idea of "grading" someone's art from 1-10. The thing is, why oh why do people get offended with an 8? Why? It's GOOD. Do you really want to be arrogant enough to believe your art as "Perfect" I thought you posted art on here so you can get feedback. You will never imporve if you expect tens all the time. Also I have noticed that if I give someone an 8, they come to my gallery and do the same. If I give someone a 10, they do the same. Why grade like this? Why not be honest. If someone gave you a 7 and they obviously deserve a 9 or 10, then why not give it to them? I don't understand how people can confuse such a simple grading system such as this.
