Hey Elisa I love Still Lifes. In my adult classes I have them do still lifes because:
they sit still where you put them under the lighting conditions you choose and you can control the color, shapes texture etc. The combinations are endless.
Main point: you can do all the choosing. I suggest working from live situations where you feel a connecton to the pieces in the still life but a number of artists do the setups and then photograph them. Carolyn Brady or Janet Fish or Sandra Freckelton Beal are three rather famous artists who do mostly still life setups with different types of objects. Also Jane Lund and Deborah Deichler.
Check out my portfolio i have a few in there and another artist on AW peck is his last name maybe matthew or mark peck

Hey all! I'm hoping to enroll in a summer pre-college program at an art school, but many require still life pieces in submission portfolios. I must admit, I've never been fantastic at still life... can anyone give me some pointers? What would be some good subjects, and how would I set things up? Thanks! Everyone here has been giving me a lot of help when I actually post something!
