Art is infectious (in a good way)

I was painting a mural today and this kid came up and was checking out my work. Soon another came, then another. After a bit a whole gaggle of kids were talking to me about drawing and painting. I enjoy writing and drawing for kids and it is my hope to inspire kids to draw and to be positive.

Does anyone else have experiences like this?

Hello Daniel,

I have a striking portrait I did several years back, I awoke to see an image on a board that was propped beside my bed. I sat up and grabbed my pencil and sketched it as I saw it. In the light of the moon, I sat beside my bed and proceeded to paint it in watercolors. It ended up being quite a desperate expression... I will get a good picture of it and post it in my album, ...here also.

I think it is good to be tuned into ones canvas, whatever it may be, to watch for those little characters that want to emerge! ; ) ...good to hear I'm not alone!

I teach young children here at our art museum (The Des Moines Art Center). I get the same experience if I'm not careful. With some of the classes they do just fine after I give the project so I'll sit down and begin to draw. Before I know it, none of them are working, but gathering around my drawing. I've stopped doing that with the younger classes, the older kids tend to do better at just looking then working.

But in my eyes, it's great motivation and an opportunity for encouragement to them. :)

LOL! Hi Daniel. I hear you.

Sometimes I like to go to a coffee shop with my sketch book. But it seems like drawing in a public place draws attention. It's all right, but my goal was not to grandstand. Just enjoy a nice cup of coffee in a semi-social atmosphere....Still... I would be disappointed if no one ever noticed my sketches.
