Favorite drawing subject

So what is your favorite subject to draw? People, horses, plants, landscapes? Or something else?

My favorite thing to draw is birds, mainly because birds are my favorite animal and i love the challenge of the feathers.

My favorite thing to draw are babies

Terry Bullard 15 Aug 2008

I agree with Penny - babies are the sweetest! Faces use to intimidate me, but they have become my favorite subject at this point and time.

Though you might think it's a certain singer, it is actually people who may or may not be remembered. Whether it's a celebrity, or a tribute to someone a lot or a few people knew, but popular to them, including me sometimes.

Primarily, however, it's people.

I love to draw people but lately I have beendrawing tattoos for other people I love to see there faces when I give them something they are thrilled about.

Personally I connect to a pretty face, and an interesting and natural pose is fun to look at. I like gardens and animals, and I would like to completely master perspective. I like the work of artists in the hudson river school, except that their painting look a little empty without a single human being. The most beautiful work of art I ever saw was a sculpture in pink quartze of a Japanese lady in a kimono kneeling and serving tea. It was from an artist in fourteenth century Japan.

i mostly do tattoo art for people. they come to me with an idea of what they want and i draw it up. its extremely gratifying when they have a piece you created put on their body. they promote my art and im extremely grateful that i picked doing tattoo art.

I love drawing portraits!!! Mostly eyes!!! You can see so much about a person by looking into their eyes!!

Nikolaus 29 Oct 2008

Portraits are my "Bread and Butter" so that's what I draw most now...I can generally do a portrait in 1-2 hours so my profit margin is great. It's probably still the number one art request from customers for most artists.

As a kid i drew cars...ate, slept, breathed drawing cars. Still draw them sometimes but not as much as portraits.

Now my favorite pencil subject are horses.

I always loved the idea of being a fantasy artist, but it seems that above all, I am a portrait artist, as my grandmother was sixty years ago. I will soon delve into fantasy art, but me thinks I'll still be drawing lots of faces!

Portraits work out great for Black & White...

as far as Fantasy art goes...well, I'd have to say...break out the colors...very few fantasy paintings are without color...the fantasy genre almost requires hue and saturation.

It's a specialized field and VERY few make a living at it. But great for personal experience and entertainment.

True... but by no means do I think I can make a living from my art, whether it's portraits or fantasy art. Maybe I can get some commissions for some extra income, but I know I won't be able to rely on it entirely. I'd love to, but I know that rarely happens in the real world. And I know I will be learning and growing my art for years to come, and I will have to conquer color pencils and paint along the way. However, I do have to say that I have seen some lovely pencil-only fantasy portraits here. Try Leah Jaarveth or Renata Cavanaugh, just to name two. Their stuff is awesome, with both graphite pencil and color!

Can't go wrong if you're just doing it for fun.

Mersea Ruane 02 Nov 2008

I do a lot of fantasy art: faeries, mermaids, angels. I also do pictures of things that have happened in my life.

Dadang Pribadi 08 Nov 2008

Most of my drawings are portraiture.

I love to draw animals (horses, birds, yes), some still lifes and portraits. But I will draw just about anything that looks interesting.

I agree with another member— the eyes are so fascinating to draw. When I was 10, I became so engrossed in it I'd draw nothing but up-close eyes of people, horses, birds, even insects.
