Self Portrait

Hi there!

Thank you for popping in and taking a look at my art. I would like to tell you a little about myself and how I ended up in front of you now :)

Dont forget to check out my personal Gallery: http://www.maverickdev.com/themaverickgallery/

BIOGRAPHY............

I live in a beautiful village in rural England, in the county of Norfolk. Famous for its river ways and flat landscape. I have one daughter (budding artist) and a bloodline of arty skills (grandfather was famous bassoon player!).

I seem to have a passion for capturing landscapes scenes. I have also worked on commissioned art, such as a range of primates for Lady Fisher, and I have also completed many bird pictures in the style of Basil Ede.

ABOUT MY ART ........

I just started painting. No training, no mentor (accept Mr Constable). In 1984 I got Cancer, and for some reason this made me paint! Yes, strange connection. During the treatment, I donated work to the NHS and continued to develop. Eventually finishing a full scale copy of the "Cornfield" on canvas after 5 years work. Now cured I paint because I have to. It's in me and I cant shake it out. Sometimes a gift... sometimes a manic passion!

I spent many years developing skills in pen and ink drawing, particularly birds of prey (a passion of mine). A few years ago I began a company making computer games products. This is, and was, an extension to my art. I create worlds that are in real 3D and include sound and also atmosphere, something traditional art cannot do. However I maintain a love for the pure art form of painting and have continued that calling.

Now I wish to take my art to the next level and make it earn me a living of some sort! I can work on commissions (and welcome them..hint!) but will continue to offer artwork from my location from photographs.

Recently I have visited the Gambia on many occasions and I help teach children there for charity work. Some of my art will feature oil paintings from that location and part of the monies will go to help the school.

I learnt by copying. Its not a sin, its a compliment. Constable is my kind of ideal I guess. I felt that his style was art but also craved realism. The happy blend between artistic license and "what is". Not that I'm a Constable level of artist, who is? Then of course Crawshaw has style and I learnt from him too. So you will see that some of my work is the same as their's, in basic visuals.

Recently I have travelled to the Gambia, helping teach children art and English. The people their captured my heart and I started to paint scenery from the Gambia. More and more paintings will be included in my portfolio from the Gambia soon. These paintings attempt to capture the living conditions of the people there and also imagery of the people themselves. All of these paintings are from actual photographs taken by myself. I also paint traditional landscapes from my area and location. Often based on others work or created from photographs.

My style is a natural one and not forced. Over the years it seems to have become looser and broader in its feel. Being less picky and more flowing. I don't know why this is! It's just the way it comes...

All of my artwork is for sale, at very reasonable prices, and I am also currently in a position to work on commission requirements. Did I mention its for sale? :)
