Self Portrait

Marcel Franquelin was born in France. He earned two Masters in fine arts, art history, and art education at the Ecole Nationale des Beaux-Arts, Lille, and the University of Lille respectively. He has been teaching art and the French language since 1979 in France and in the United States.

Marcel has created numerous commissions for clients, collectors, and corporations, including Wyeth Pharmaceuticals, I.M.O. Industries, and Ala Vineyard. Among the commissions were large murals for several New York schools and reproductions of 19th century masterpieces from the Napoleonic period Commercial assignments include a catalog featuring 300 graphite illustrations for Rodier, a fashion company. He also executes commissions for individuals.

Marcel is represented by a wide range of galleries including Garitt Davidson, Moorestown, NJ; Image Gallery, Princeton, NJ; Ambssador Gallery, New York; Marin Price Gallery, D.C., Chevy Chase, and Balimore; Delan Miller Gallery, Plainesboro NJ; Devon Gallery, New Hope, PA. Most recently his work has been featured at the Stricoff Gallery, New York, Beamesderfer Gallery, Highland Park, NJ, and the Rosenfeld Gallery, Philadelphia. His most recent show, a collection of 20 prints, took place at the Watchung Arts Center. American Artist and School Arts magazines have featured Marcels work, as well.

At his studio in Milltown, NJ and at other NJ venues, Marcel teachers a full schedule of classes in basic drawing, oil painting, airbrush, pen and ink, charcoal, and watercolor. He individualizes instruction based on the students abilities, needs, and desires. Together, he and his students ha ve created Les Amis des Arts, an art association which holds exhibitions at galleries and commercial locations throughout the year.
