Like most of the Impressionists I choose to mainly paint en plein air (from life or on location), while occasionally painting from quick sketches and memory back in my studio.
I chose to paint from life and from memory, depending on the piece. The ones I paint from memory seem to invoke more. The blurred edges appear as if we are dreaming or remembering our often obscure memories. The ones from life seem to entail emotions and moments caught in their act.
Subject matter that I chose ranges from landscapes, still lifes to figurative works. More often I find myself painting landscapes.
Landscapes appeal on a level of the beauty of nature. I am entranced by it. Even inhibited by our existence, with a careless highway sign or bridge, I still find beauty. My landscapes tend to lie outside the city elements before they are touched and over flown with man. A lot of them contain water: a second home and an amazing mirror of our world.
