Artist Bio

Jiri .George Rysanek . Born in 1961 in Slany, Czech Republic. When I was a little boy, I was already keen to demonstrate my artistic gift by drawing on pavements and on the walls in his room. At the primary school, I organized arts sessions after school and was awarded the first prize at a number of arts competitions. Apart from attending People’s art school, I was, unfortunately, denied any further arts study for political reasons. After studying at the agriculture college for two years, I decided to go into exile and dreamt of going to the United States. However, the Velvet Revolution interrupted my plans even though I would get to see the United States at some later stage. In the meantime, I lived in Austria where, apart from painting, I looked after abandoned and abused animals at the Animal Guardian Society in Vienna. Besides, I also worked as an animal keeper, especially exotic animals, such as beasts of prey and monkeys. My love for animals and nature itself has always been an inspiration for me. My pictures are full of colors deriving from my interest in nature itself as well as impressionalists and surrealists and this influence may be recognized even today. Dreamy landscapes full of symbols and hidden meanings should elicit some deeper thoughts. In 1991, I spent 6 months in Arizona where I stayed in an artistic community in the desert. Magnificent natural scenarios will stay in my mind for ever and have been used as numerous motifs for my work. In 2006, I decided to come back to my homeland. Human portraits and animals will remain my main focus. I also love old Prague and Southern France.

Technique: mostly oil paintings Exhibitions: 1991 Tucson 2001 Vienna, Döbling 2008 Prague; Ecce Terra
