Artist Bio

Joel Iskowitz has created artwork for three decades that has graced the covers of books, periodicals, journals, public spaces, coins and postage stamps worldwide. He is also an active United States Air Force (USAF) artist and has a number of oils in the USAF permanent collection including murals installed at the new Air Terminal in Ramstein,Germany. Mr. Iskowitz has been invited twice to document Space Shuttle missions and his artwork is on permanent display at the NASA Kennedy Space Center Museum. Mr. Iskowitz's work has been featured in many international journals; including profiles of his numismatic and philatelic art in CoinAGE Magazine; Watercolor Magazine and American Artist Magazine,Smithsonian Profiles, and Amphora Quarterly, and his murals have been featured in Exhibit Builder Magazine. He has been awarded both bronze (twice) and silver medals for his corporate illustrations and grand-scale public art in Portfolios.com international competitions. Mr. Iskowitz has also received the National Oceanic and Philatellic Society citation for his contributions to Space Philately. Mr Iskowitz has guest lectured at leading universities art schools and professional organizations and served as the National Lecture Series Chair of the Society of Illustrators. Mr. Iskowitz is responsible for well over 3,000 philatelic designs issued by more than forty separate nations which have covered a wide spectrum of subject matter from flora and fauna to notable personages and icons in the pantheon of history. In 2005 the National Endowment for the Arts selected Joel Iskowitz to join the U.S.Mint Artistic Infusion Program with the designation of Master Designer. Mr. Iskowitz has had twenty four winning designs ( artwork selected for minting by the national review committees) in his two years to date as Master Designer for the United States Mint.In May of 2011 he was inducted into the Hunter College Hall of Fame.
