JOSEPH - HONORABLE SURVIVOR

This piece was completed for the book. It is approximately 8ft wide X 5ft tall. The colors I chose depict the travels and battles fought by this man for his people, his forefathers lands, his family and his culture.... "when the white man took his life and tried to also take his identity". Chief Joseph's native name was "HIN MAH TOO YAH LAH KET" meaning (Thunder Rolling In The Mountains), he was from the Nez Perce tribe. My friend Al Adelsburger is hosting a commemorative mural in his honor.... in the city now called "Joseph". His life story is insightful and has made an impact on many of my students. I also include a shot of it still being handpainted while my assistants and friends Dru and Andrew got busy with the bottom portion! I truly enjoyed the research, sketching and painting process to complete this original private painting. HR 2010
