Jesse James Clay study/life size bust

This is one of several studies however inaccurate in an attempt to gain some likeness based of available information about the appearance of the famed Missouri outlaw Jesse James.

Vincent, I like this one more then other of your Jesse James portraits of all kinds. I feel here a more concentrated artists vision of this character. Powerful artwork!!! I do not care about strict outer similarity with the historic person here.

don't know what he looked like but do know this is very fine work!

Artist Reply: Thanks Brenda. I have not agreed with myself yet on the best portrait so we have something in common. Those early tin types are ambiguous. People around here where Jesse was born and died have a stereotype idea of how he looked and are obsessed with these photo images. This of course limits an artist's expression a bit. Now I personally am friends with Jesse's great grandson and grand daughter sso I was hoping to get some sort of positive response from them as the judges of the sculpture projects which resulted in this rough portrait sketch which is just a projected drawing off a real photo of the man. The "off" eye is part of the reality of the tin type. The great grandson is former district judge in california James Ross. The Grand daughter is living in Kansas.
