Tabernilla Street House

Sharon De Vore Gonzalez's Facebook profile This is one of the first houses in Balboa Canal Zone where I lived with my family. It is a 4 family house on Tabernilla Street. Looking at this photo we lived on the bottom right side. All housing on the Panama Canal Zone was owned, built and maintained by the United States Government and used exclusively by the people and families who worked on the Panama Canal Zone. When the canal and Canal Zone were given to Panama, Panama sold off the houses to private individuals. Armando is so right; it is Tabernilla. I never knew of any bar any where around it so I do not know where the name came from. I am thinking maybe someone who frequented the bars in Panama City gave the street it's name. Ha! It goes up a mountain. Hope that you enjoy!

I live in Tabernilla actually. The name "Tabernilla" belongs to one of the reaches at the Panama Canal. I have to search more to ser the origin of the name.

Artist Reply: ACTUALLY IT WAS SPELLED BOTH WAYS. I SPELLED IT TAVERNILLA ON MY PAINTING OF THIS AND TABERNILLA HERE. WE MOST ALWAYS SPELLED IT WITH A ā€œVā€.
