I started this as an oil painting, didn't like the finished product and after purchasing a book on Michealangelo's relief sculptures, decided to build my own using a sculpting medium. Originally I was going to make it gawdy by adding colour and jewels, ribbons, etc. Again, influenced by "the book", I opted for letting the light play on the shadows of the scuplture.
