Sea Treasures

I have collected seaglass my whole life it seems. When I was a kid I would collect bits of pottery and seaglass from the cliffs and rocky shores of Maine, and now as an adult I live across from a beach and it is teaming with seaglass. The colors are rare and some are super rare, dating back centuries when they used to put silt in the glass to make what they term "black" glass, which when held up to the light is a dark green or brown for old alcohol bottles. Reds are very rare and you usually only find 1 in 5,000 pieces of glass you pick up. My favorites are blues, and now that plastic has taken the world over, these little gems are more rare than ever before. July 2008

It would be so nice in a fish tank that lights from the bottom.

Artist Reply: Actually placed in water the colors stand out even more. I use them in the bottom of my vases sometimes. But actually I was thinking of a half wall with the lighting from the bottom and a shelf on top, lovely feature for a room.

So cool and relaxing! The stones can be cool or hot, sharp or smooth rearranged by water. This is a great picture!!

Artist Reply: Thank you Sylvia, I love collecting it. Walking along the beach with your eyes on the sand in front of you is a great stress reliever, and it takes away the days little worries as you listen to the gulls, the waves, and if you are lucky you find a piece of sea treasure to take home to remember the day.

Artist Reply: Thanks Gerry, and yes it is sad to think that man can litter the world as we do and yet the ocean sends it back as a jewel.

Until you photos and descriptions, I have never hear of seaglass before. You image makes them looks so elegant.

Artist Reply: Thank you Karen, maybe the next time you are at the beach you will look down and see some seaglass for yourself eh? Thanks for your lovely comments.

OUTSTANDING PHOTO, TAMMY. LOVE THE COLORS AND THE CLARITY TO THIS.

Artist Reply: Thank you Sharon, can only take the compliment for the shot, the sea did the rest.
