SOLD! 12 x 16 - Oil, Ink, Prismatic iridescent pigments on 140lb Arches HP. I believe that this piece is a self-portrait (but I'm not sure!) I know it has something to do with the creative process. The heart represents the passion that goes into painting. It also represents the passion that one might have in viewing certain works. The heart is not completely pure. It is "biased" with invading insects...perhaps tainted by one's experiences in life. It seems to be climbing out of a goblet. The goblet is a symbol of the feminine and also an icon for the "font of fertility"....(fertility of imagination). I believe the cage represents the "capture" of creativity. Sometimes I feel that I've really nailed a thought through painting...it seems to work....thus the eye in the cage. The shovel is a symbol of digging in....hard work.
