the MISSILE with a man within it

Lockheed F-104 Starfighter, the meanest, fastest fighter in the cold war years. If a pilot wasn't good enough for it, he might lose control and roll into infinity. The pilots wore space suits like above. Lockheed still builds them best, like the F-22 Advanced Fighter today.

Artist Reply: Dear Gerry, Thirty five years ago I did some silver metal casting for a Lockheed friend. He had some historical photos from the Lockheed photo archives and had made copies. He paid me for the work with the pictures. wcl
