Riding the Horse Backwards

I interpreted this scene as a landscape with a wooden gate. Have you entered a new world or have you returned from a new experience altering your perception? The book Riding the Horse Backwards poses these questions by Arnold and Amy Mindel. If we ride the horse backwards, we change our perception and state of consciousness. We can not see what is ahead, only what we have already seen. The metaphor is that we have to be prepared for the unexpected. Which way do you choose to ride the horse?
