Coppertop Checks Out the Irises

SLS048. 7" x 10" watercolor, ©2005 by M.L. Wilson. Spring's a long time coming some years, even on the Oregon coast, but when it finally does, everything celebrates. The Rufous Hummingbird gets to our place before the snowstorms have given up, and finds the pickings pretty slim. We supplement him with the sugar syrup and somehow, he manages to survive the freezes. Feisty Little Warrior, Welcome! I don't begrudge you the fifty pounds of sugar you and your buddies slurp up in a season at all.
