The Gilded Cage

This acrylic is my take on the "Soiled Doves". A title given to the women that followed the trails out to the west, during the Gold Rush.

Well done, lots to draw your eye in. Love the symbolic "heart in hand" and the smiling mask but somber expression of the face. Very thoughtful desig n. ~Sandra

Artist Reply: I wish the heart was better presented. It is done in gold foil and it is sort of the whole prostitute with a heart of gold theme.Interestingly the "cribs"(that's what they called the rooms the ladies kept) were not outlawed until the Army deemed them a font of VD.Most of the women were young and immigrants and their favors could be bought for .50, the favorites were the redheads as they were considered most "amoropus" and the french women charged .75.
