Bloodroot a wild and rare woodland flower is one of the first to bloom in the shade garden. It's leaves remind you of lace and the delicate flowers make you wonder how it became to be called, "Bloodroot". Not only a sign of spring but a sign of the times. It's illegal to dig up woodland plants and transplant them but a nursery owner saw a woodland area being demolished to become a shopping center parking lot so she did dig these and other beauties up and sold them ONLY to those she knew would preserve them. I could only afford one plant so this is what I chose because the leaves were so beautiful. To this day they are flourishing and spreading! I plan to find a woodland area to replace some of these back to nature where I know they will continue to thrive! :)
