Is this spot tender?

About once or twice a week I have this visitor in my tree. He works his way up and down the branches searching for the spot with bugs, then he beats his beak against the trunk until he can reach the tiny delectibles inside. He is a Downy Woodpecker, he can be identified by the banding on the tail feathers. The hairy woodpecker has no markings on the tail. Taken in Mission, B.C.

Stunning! I wish I could get this shot!!!! I Know who to ask if Im confused on a bird! LOL

Artist Reply: Do you not have woodpeckers to keep the crocs in line? LOL. Anytime you need help with a bird, just ask, if I can I will tell you. :)

Marvelous shot of a charming bird.

Artist Reply: Thanks for commenting Delores! I love woodpeckers but you don't see many of them. I guess I just have a lucky tree in my yard, all the birds seem to enjoy it.

very nice image of the woodpecker Pam, I see your learning the subtle differences of similar looking birds.. not always easy ,is it..LOLL I know I have trouble from time to time, especially when the only difference might be one band on the tail versus two bands...then you got your winter coats, summer coats , juvenile/adult coats..it is enought to drive one batty...Have a Great weekend

Artist Reply: Hi Gary, you are so right, I have been a bird watcher for many yrs now, the camera was a recent aquirement. Most birds are distinct, but as you say, lots to consider with some spieces, the ones that drive me batty are the sparrows and wrens... to many tips bits stripes and what not. Like the Savanah Sparrow, difference is the notch at the bottom of the tail.. *shaking head* Thanks for popping in and commenting Gary, I appreciate it!
